I am from Romania and I have a great idea about a movie, I have even started to write the screenplay, I will do my best to format it properly , but I am afraid that when I will have to translate it in English it will not be so good. Do the agencies or companies appreciate the idea or I have to work by myself at the translation to make them read it?Thank you very much!

they are very big on having it right. Format and language. They also tend to look at it only once so make absolutely sure it is perfect the first time you submit it. Sorry

Why worry about making your first screenplay catch the eye of "Hollywood" rather than trying to make an impact where you live?

I will be honest. It is very tough to be noticed. And most major studios reject anything which is not in proper format as well as grammar.

Here is the good news: you can probably find someone where you live that can help you make the idea you want to turn into a movie. Good equipment and editing software is much cheaper than before. Depending on how creative you get, your budget can be almost nothing if you can get enough people to belive in your story/vision.

I'll list a couple links below which can help you a lot. If you (or anyone else) have questions about accomplishing this or even screenwriting in general, contact me.

Script Buddy is a site where you can write up to four screenplays at once per account free - and they help you with putting it in the proper format which you can later print out.

Another resource I'll add is Triggerstreet: which was headed up by Kevin Spacey - created to help emerging filmmakers and screenwriters to get awareness. It is also free to get an account there.

Don't worry as much about your language skills at the moment. The most important thing to do at this point is have a very good story with interesting characters. And the first draft is not usually perfect. So rewriting will be key. But there will always be people to help you get it made if you are able to have a story others will belie in. And maybe the first thing you wrote won't get interest. But if you can write things with a smaller budget and good characters and ideas, you'll get notice.

If your idea is original enough to make Hollywood producers see dollar signs, then they'll buy the rights to the script from you, even if it's only a first draft. Then they'll butcher the script and Americanize it to the point where you won't even be sure you wrote it, but you'll be sure you'll get to spend the money they give you for it. If it's not an easy idea to sell, then, yeah you're gonna have to get the script as perfect and Americanized as possible. It just all depends on how original the script and its potential to make money... good luck :-)
