The simply fact that the word "races" exists with an "s", by itself, means that they are several races, different from one another. If all the races were the same, welll.... they would only be one race!
It shouldn't be about being the same, it should be about being "different but equal". And that means 2 things. One thing of course is recognizing that no race is better than the other. Most people would agree with that. But first, it means recognizing racial differences instead of censuring them!
Real tolerance can be obtained only when people decide to recognize the differences that do exist, and then respect them.
what do you think?

There is only one race: the Human race.

That said, there is a huge difference between "equal" and "same". The different tribes of humanity are all equal, but they are not all the same.

There are some definite differences (generalized of course) between the various tribes.

Blacks tend to be naturally strong and athletic, in addition to being spiritually sensitive. Oriental people tend to have sharp mathematical/analytical minds. White people seem to be gifted with imagination and art.

This is, of course, merely a generalization based on my observations, and there are plenty of anomalies that contradict it.

Instead of pretending that everyone is the same and being afraid to make these kinds of observations, we should learn to appreciate these differences and how they enrich our culture. It's always been my fervent belief that if we never discussed race or racism in front of the younger generations (except necessarily in a historical context), racism would naturally eradicate itself. I've never heard of a child deciding on his own that his "race" was better than another. Children are too wise for that.

Perhaps you are confusing science with sociology.
In science, yes we are of the human race (at least that is what I think and I am sticking to it) and there are the differences are insignificant.

Socially, we create barriers that have harmed groups of people over time. These issues need to be solved and for some crazy reason, race is still a tool that some use to hold others (and sometimes themselves) back.

Now, moving on to diversity and mutualy respect. As a society of free thinkers, how do we decided what to tollerate? Where do we draw the lines? And how do we know those differences are real and not contrived? What about our similarites? Should we not celebrate that as well?

Races are not the same. The Indianoplois 500 is not Le Mans.

Seriously: there is one and ONLY one place where "racism" can and SHOULD be practiced: in medical analysis. In this case the negative connotations of the word fly out the window. There are differences in the biology of different races - a blood pressure medication was recently released that targets blacks specifically. Race should only be a factor in regards to giving proper medical care, period.

There is only one race: the human race. So, it is a devisive word that has been used over the years.

People are different, period. What you grow up around, affects you. So, in that way, people are all the same.

Why should dark or light colored skin be any more of a big deal than dark or light colored hair or eyes?

Different but equal (rights) is right!

I think at the core, all ethnic groups are the same. We all want the same things out of life/for family/for ourselves. I think the differences come in terms of cultural up bringing and class. That's where the differences begin to manifest.

Let's keep this simple.

We're all human.
God made us this way.
If you were hurt and in need of say, a blood transfusion, I could donate my blood to you.
Same with my liver, heart, kidney.

We're ALL the same, under the skin.
The sooner we all work together to help each other, the better off we'll all be.
