need more info.
are they rock, easy listening, r and b?
could be anybody...
Eurythmics come to mind. Annie has a beautiful soft voice and Dave is raspy and gritty, but I dont think thats the answer to your question.
Also could be Timbuk 3 (they sang "The Futures so Bright")
Peached and Herb?
Roxette was not a 70's band. Hell they werent even a band - they were HORRIBLE schlocky cheesy music that could have been written by a 2 year old. (You got the look.......PLEASE!!)
Rubber Rodeo was also a male/female duo.
WAIT A MINUTE!!!
Are you talking about Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker singing 'Love Lifts us Up"????Her voice is like and angel and his is like gravel on a highway.....definitely fits your criteria and your time-era.

I don't know about a band, but there was a song called "I've Had The Time Of My Life" with Bill Medley and Jennifer Warren for the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. It was quite popular at the time.
