Revising is slightly different from Editing. If you are told to revise a paper, that means you missed the idea (s) or have diverted from the main point and so you will need to either plan and reconstruct your essay again. In Editing a paper,it entails some grammatical errors like;comma splice, fragments or fused sentences and others. So you do the corrections and you are through. However,if you have to revise a paper you are mostly likely to rewrite the whole essay again.
All these work to make your paper "clean" from errors and satisfy all the purpose.

Revision and editing helps to ensure that the paper flows nicely and makes sense. It also helps you catch spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes. It can help you to know whether or not you have the same verb tense throughout the entire paper.
Good luck

The KEY is that we don't always write thing perfectly the first time. There could be better ways of wording something, grammatical or spelling errors, or better organization of the thoughts and paragraphs. So we often need to go back and edit or revise things to make it better.
