Why and how can we condone the spending of billions of dollars for NASA to fly to the moon and beyond when the money could be used for so many things that affect us right here, right now?I find it appalling that we can't feed and clothe some of our citizens but we fund a bunch of space boys to play Star Trek. There are much better ways to spend the money.I realize the government is involved, but still, this is ridiculous. After almost after 40 years since we landed on the moon, what has been accomplished that warrants this kind of waste?

LOL well won't bother you with the reasons since you've already made up your mind. And has anyone really changed their minds after ready a post on here? But the there are billions upon billions of dollars spent on "projects" in the U.S. that are a total waste. Now whether you or I agree with them is a whole other issue, I happen to like my tax money on the advancement of space travel and would prefer it go to that than some study of why the butterfly migrate to different areas. You'd prefer that it go to feed and clothe citizens whom I believe the money would be there if we deported some 11 million illegals.

FORGIVE ME IF THIS SOUNDS IGNORANT:
Actually I think I agree with your statement here. There are a number of ways the money can be spent to better other causes than to sent "space boys" to the moon again.

At some point NASA figures we can have people live on the moon, but who in their right mind's would? I am not talking about visiting either, I am talking about spending the rest of your lives there. Think about it, the average person could not afford to fly across the country never mind the moon.

Another even more startling question: why in the world do we spend billions of dollars on an illegally, unconstitutional war just so that Dick Cheney's oil buddies can get richer and richer and richer as they feed America's dependency on OIL?
There ARE better ways to spend taxpayers' money, but as long as gullible Americans allow corrupt politicians to fritter it all away, nothing's going to change.
Look at the waste, fraud, price-gouging, and outlandish over-billings corporations friendly to the Bush administration get away with as a result of this obscene 'war'? The space program, at least, has the opportunity of eventually offering some value to the world (as did the voyages of Christopher Columbus and the travels of Marco Polo). We will never see any 'return' on our 'investment' in this inane Iraqi 'war'. -RKO-
