I think there was a movie out called "G" and it set "The Great Gaspy" in the hip-hop world. I didn't see the movie, but I can imagine it would translate well. Gatsby could be an up and coming rap star "new money", Daisy's family and the guy she married (forget his name) could be from a family that started a company similar to Motown or are from an established jazz background and thus are "old money."

I'm not a huge fan of him, but Puff Daddy reminds me a lot of Gatsby. Someone who worked their way up from nothing, someone who may or may not have some shady business dealings (I think he was involved with Suge Knight), and someone who tries to emmulate people with old money (remember when he had that butler, Farnsworth Bentley or something?).

Donald Trump is too crude to be Gatsby.
Gatsby has a touch of mystery about him, of the unknown, of the suave sophisticate who knows exactly how to treat a women.
I can't think of any contemporary figure that would fill Gatsby's boots, apart from me.

Donald doesn't cut it because his motivation was purely financial. It would have to be someone who worked their way up from nothing (like Donald), but their motive was to get a girl...can't think of any concrete "real-life" people
