I have a 89 Honda Accord DX, and when its cold outside like early in the morning or after it sets for a while, it feels really weak during the pick up in second gear, not only that but sometimes when I'm downshifting it likes to stay in high rpm's around 3000, I have replaced plugs wires distributor caps and buttons I've changed hoses fuel filters and it still does it everything looks fine in the engine capartment. It still runs and once you get it warmed up it runs ok but still have some high rpm problems, I'm ony but 19 and in college so I can't afford to go into the exstream to fix my car, I only had it but 3 months. I would like to know if anyone can tell me what is wrong with it. Thank you for you're help if you can help me.

Need to have it checked out as there are several rather simple things that can cause similar problems on those. Coolant temp sensor is one, accelerator cable is another, idle speed motor, List is larger than that, but most of them are rather minor also. Because you mentioned the "cold" weather or that it has been sitting, and also because the high rpms "and" because these cars have notoriously bad temp sending units I am leaning towards that as the cause. Honda usually has a bunch of them in stock as sell them all the time. Takes just a few minutes to install one. The sensor I am talking about is not the one that works the temp guage on the dash, but the one that sends a signal to the car's computer telling it how "cold or hot" the engine is and therefore how much "fuel" to send to it as well as how to set the timing.

your computer dint go into closed loop until the engine is warmed up and it is running on a preset values or the catlic converter could be getting bad and not letting a good flow through until it warms up and the catalyst expands
