tree?

Do you mean 'three'?

Check out Tocqueville, an old dead French guy who had a lot of things to say on the subject.

My opinion:

1) freedom in general, but of religion, association, self-determination, especially. We can try to do anything in America as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others to do the same. (this is eroding with time, but that's besides the point)

2) right of private property. The ability of a person to profit from their own creativity and or work ensures that people have a motive to achieve something. Whether it's the amount of food I can grow or a new cure for a disease, if I discover it, I can profit from it. This is the underpinning of capitalism, that creates more wealth than any other economic system. Is capitalism perfect? No, but with a few controls to prevent/control monopolies, it is the best thing going.

3) our relative wealth. Americans are of course concerned with our own poor, but we have lost perspective. Our poor tend to have color television, cable service, a computer, air conditioning and heat, more clothes than they know what to do with, a refrigerator full of food (including more meat than most of the world's families would eat in a month), an automobile, access to education and healthcare and they're usually not more than 2 people per bedroom (although our homes also have separate kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms most of the time.)

We could talk about the natural resources of the country and the ecological diversity, but that sounds outside the scope of your essay.

Do you mean like what the nation was built on? If you do use religion, because that's why the colonists came from Europe and that's why the revolution was started and the nation was founded on.
But make sure you dint forget the amendments and all the stuff from the earlier parts of our country.
