Since your cervix is "ripened" that means it's getting ready to dilate. Often times there can be sharp pains up in your vagina as the cervix starts to open. Have you had any "discharge" that is bloody or blood tinged? That can be another sign that labor is near!

You still have a few weeks to go most women give birth aroud the 40th week. I did have a pain like that with my first it was right before I lost my plug. I would call my OB and tell her to see what she says it may be....It doesn't sound serious and I wouldn't worry you are so close now that if you had him/her tonight everything would be O.K. When you go into labor you will feel cramps they atart out like menstrual cramps in the bottom of your tummy as the progress they get stronger and stronger and your tummy will tighten and relax. The best thing you can do to move it along is walk. Don't go to the hospital until your contractions are 6 min apart or they will just send you home. Once you start having contractions don't eat anything unless your doc says it's ok and drink about 32 oz of water before or while you are at the hospital this will help you in labor and keep you from getting dehydrated Good luck

I am no expert, but I have given birth to two children and my daughter is now 39 weeks pregnant and I can say from experience that everyone's body goes through different things while they are pregnant. There is not really a sign that I know of that you are going to go into labor early. The pain in the lower back and vagina is farely common, it could be just the baby positioning itself. If you have no indications from your OB to look for certain signs of early labor, relax, it will be here in due time.

It could have been the baby dropping into place. Labor or contractions will feel like the cramps you get with your period...only eventually a whole lot worse. You might be going into labor soon. Back pain can be a sign of labor, or just from having to carry around a baby all day.

I had alot of back pain which led to my labor, there is such a thing as back labor where you are feeling the pain in your back instead of int he front... It is possible that you are experiencing that and with the other pains your body is getting prepared for the labor..We sure to tell your OB what you are experiencing and he/she will be able to make a judgement Good Luck to You!

Hi there..I am pregnant with my 4th baby and 38 weeks, I have those stabbing pains up in my vagina all the time, feels like the baby is pushing down..quite painful!! These pains can go on for weeks..try not to worry about them..its all preperation:) The one thing I have felt in all my pregnancies before going into labour a few hours before...is feeling quite unwell...lightheaded...to the point of having to lie down...nausea. Have this for maybe an hour or so..then 4to5 hours later..labour starts...! But hey thats just me lol

If this is your first child...congrats.....You will know labor from braxton hicks fake labor......Pressure as if yuo have to go do number #2 , along with reoccuring pressure every 3 mins-5 mins on time. the pain will be to where as if you have eaten something bad, or abad case of gas trying to pass through....LOL.....my advice i have 2 and one on the way, try to have the baby without a Epideral shot. cause if you can make it through the labor the delivery is a whiz. The shot can cause back issue for the rest of your life.....and chances to hit the baby. that why they make you sign a release of accident form.......

Sounds like you are getting ready to go into labor, but it is probably several weeks away still. Good luck to you - it sounds like you are going to end up with back labor which hurts like hell!
