A mixture of dissolved Alum sprayed on the fruit will make the first bite taste really awful. The first rain will wash it off, but frequent spraying will make the squirrels not even want to try. A small feeder in another part of the yard will keep them from being desperate enough to try again.

Yes they do that.
If they're dwarf trees, you can try putting netting over the trees.
Someone suggested camphor crystals (stuff they use for moth balls) around the base of the tree. Had a hard time finding any.

What did it (finally) was to set a (humane) trap and catch one of them.
It scared the others away, (ba careful, squirrels can carry rabies)

The best solution I read recently. is to tie a motion detector to the sprinklers. Anything that moves in the yard set of the guys sprinkler system. Works, but it takes a handyman to wire up such a system.

How about buying a squirrel feeder and keeping it stocked with peanuts ( unsalted ) and sunflower seed. The squirrels are fun to watch and you get the added pleasure of having free sunflower plants because the squirrels like to bury some of them. They also have corn and sunflower blocks. This should keep them away from the trees.

You could try using a squirrel repellent like Critter Ridder. I got some at www.homepestsolutions.com. It should keep them from wanting to be in your yard. The container has a label that will help you know just where to put it. Good Luck!

the best way to take care of a squirrel problem-is to feed them-we have 9 different fruit trees and 3 nut trees-and we also have a feeder of corn for them-and gather black walnuts for them-unless we just have squirrels with manners,we have very small problems-also they are a ton of fun to watch-we have 3 cats and watching them is a riot-killing them would be rotten-what if we were killed for eating?
