Yes, on pretty much any Latino media outlet, the only folks you see are White - and if you do see a Black or Mulatto (half Black half White) or Indian or Meztizo (half Indian half White) Latino, they're a servant or a buffoon.
Basically, Latinos are what African Americans would call "color struck" - that is, they view lightskinned people as having a higher status than darkskinned people.
And you can see it in other walks of life too - like look at the presidents of those countries. Most Cubans are Black or Mulatto - but Cuban dictator Fidel Castro is a White man. Most Mexicans are Indian or Meztizo, but President Vicente Fox is a White man.
For an extreme case, look at the Dominican Republic - a country full of lightskinned Blacks that has NEVER had a Black president in it's 162 year history! (many lightskinned Black Dominicans don't even consider darkskinned Black Dominicans to even be Dominicans - they call them "Haitians" even though they speak Spanish, have Spanish last names and were BORN IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC!!!)
But the Haitians are color struck too - that's why all the rich people in Haiti are lightskinned, even though most Haitians are very darkskinned Blacks. Also, most of the prostitutes in Haiti are Dominicans, because Haitian men won't pay to have sex with a darkskinned Black woman, they want a girl who's lightskinned
That's why many Latinos get very offended if their kids (especially their daughters) marry Blacks - even if the Black person they're involved with has lighter skin then they do! But, that same family would be besides themselves with joy if their daughter married a White man!
Those countries were all colonies, ruled by White conquistadores with most of the Blacks and Indians held as slaves. Even two centuries after independence, they haven't gotten very far past that!!!
The Plantantion Mentality is alive and well in Latin America.

From what I've read (can't say I watch any Spanish language television), there is rampant color discrimination in favor of whites throughout Central and South America. Until fairly recently, it wasn't uncommon for newspaper adds in Brazil (which has the second largest black population of any country outside Africa) to express a preference for secretaries with "good physical appearance" - a term understood to mean "white."
The absence of brown (or black) people on television, except as servants or criminals, is cause for lots of complaints throughout Latin America, so it stands to reason you would see the same preferences on these stations since they show a lot of programming originating from Latin America. Yes, some Latins are white, but the vast majority are brown and a fair number in some countries are black.
I think the exclusion of non-whites is racism, just as it was in the US until the 1960s. Undoubtedly, brown and black people want to see people who look like themselves on television. But it appears that Latin America is at least a generation behind the US when it comes to inclusion on television.

The "white" ones are of mostly Castilian(Spanish from Spain) descent I would guess. As for what you call the "Latins," they're mostly of Native descent. It is odd, considering that the majority of folks in Mexico are of Native ancestry and aren't pure Castilian.

I wouldn´t consider it as racism but I think it is a matter of what we think looks beautiful. It happens everywhere!! For us it is so common to see dark skin with hispanic features that probably it wouldn´t stand out from the crowd, so they need actors, actresses and hosts that stand out and will be remembered.
My boyfriend is from Denmark and he says that most people there are bored of seeing white skin, light blue-eye blondes! That is so common for them that what they consider beautiful is a darker skin or hair. More exotic I guess.

In some Spanish speaking countries, there are white looking people. In my opinion, it's just the way the people look. I don't think it has anything to do with racism.

if you have blonde hair that will naturally get bleached by the particular sun in the summer. There was this guy in my class who had golden blonde hair that was a medium brown near the bottom. When he came back to college after summer vacation, it was practically platinum blonde!

Jet black hair. I have truly dark brown hair and I consider dark hair looks better. I may really like blonde hair.
