Hmmm.
Had to think about this one. To die on your feet rather than live on your knees means to be proud.
"He who pats himself on the back may dislocate his shoulder."

To live on your knees rather than die on your feet means to choose humiliation over death.
"Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor."

I would rather live like a man then die like a coward. Let me be humble and live on my knees.
