Those changes occured at the beginning ot the year 1945. At this time, the Allied knew they were going to win. The Great Alliance between the two opposed ideologies was finished. To make sure that they wouldn't fight for the same objectives, USA and USSR decided their areas, and where their armies will stop (the old border between West and East Germany).
At this point, the two sides didn't trust them, and started to spy each other. The blocade of Berlin is the first example of Cold War, with the USSAF trying to supplied the German capital, avoidning the Russian air forces, who tried to prevent them, without to fight directly.

The eastern block, led by Soviet Russia changed from ally to adversary. Where the Soviets were our friends against Hitler, they then became our enemy. They wished communist domination over the world, but only had Eastern Europe and China join them.

This was the beginning of the period known as the Cold War.
