Because its cheap and easy to do, and if just one person takes them up on the offer then they recoup a lot of money.
It only takes one "sucker" to buy and its worth it.

Because the costs are very low and it works. It's free to send email. If a spammer sends out 1,000,000 emails and gets one idiot to respond, then it was worth it to the spammer. They also have little regard for the fact that they're bothering the other 999,999 people. Self-interest is king in human nature.

What do they get? $$$! LOTS of $$$. If nobody responded to the ads, they'd go away rather quickly. It only takes a tiny response rate to make it worthwhile.
Every idiot who buys something from a spamvertized site is at the root of the problem.

It would seem that they are paid for how many they send out, not on the response. Another question is, does anyone ever respond? Strange as it may seem, the answer has to be yes, or they would stop doing it.

A lot of spam is sent from zombie pc's, owned by people who have no idea their pc's are being used.
I don't get why people would hand over their credit card/paypal/bank details to some dodgy geezer; but enough people must do it or they wouldn't bother.
