The Tradition in England is that you remove them on the 12th day after Christmas (which is where the song came from)...

Superstition around this goes along the lines of if the tree is not removed on the twelth day than you have to keep the tree up for another month or face bad weather for the whole year! (which in england we will anyway!!)
