The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Commercial and Residential Cleaning Services: A Resource Guide to Developing and Maintaining Your Own Janitorial or Home Cleaning Business by Walter Fenix
* Start and Run a Home Cleaning Business by Susan Bewsey
* Start Your Own Cleaning Service (Entrepreneur Magazine's Start Ups) by Jacquelyn Lynn
* How to Start a Home-Based Housecleaning Business, 2nd (Home-Based Business Series) by Laura Jorstad

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Wear a uniform with your company name on it, it goes without saying you should be clean physically. Your van should be lettered, have business cards. Realize that 75% of cleaning company's FAIL in there first year. Only 1 in 1,000 last 25 years or more. Don't let anyone talk you in to doing a half tail job to save them $$ when there building looks like crap they wont say that's the way we want it, no no no they will throw you under the bus saying that (your company) does a crappy job. Do not be low bidder on any job! Tell them quality is not cheep! If you want it done properly you have to pay a reasonable fee and there is no way out of it. Use quality cleaning agents don't short cut the process. Realize that in time people will seek you out to work for them if you do a quality job. Never be dishonest! If you find change, cash or anything of value on the floor put it on a desk or let your contact person know about it.(I found $50,000 on a tellers desk in a bank on night, called the president at home at 3 am, he told me to put it in a trash bag and put it under his desk.) Honesty will save your butt. Work hard give em there moneys worth.

I will suggest you to plan an advertisement strategy for your business. Today starting a new business is not that big challenge but actual challenge is to advertise that business in a better way. Start a business which has scope in your area. Whenever someone thinks to start new business first he/she should consider area (country, state and target customers) then make a proper strategy for new business.

try if possible to keep your clients grouped with regard to location. This saves travel time.
