I had the same problem, but I now make her a hamper with all her favorite foods, for example biscuits, jams etc and then usually add in a bottle of wine or this year is going to be whisky. She loves it.

When my grandmother was in her 90's.....she died at 99...she was always full of life and energy....I wrote her a poem like story and put it in a really beautiful frame ....It started out like this....

When I was thinking what to get you for Christmas that you didn't already have or wouldn't put away in the drawer with all the other gifts you've received over the years, I decided this was a great time to tell you how special you are to me.

I remember all the times when I was small when you would .......etc...etc., etc.....

I ended by saying "this is just so you have a permanent reminder that I love you forever".

After I gave it to her, she said, Old People like this kind of stuff.... I'll never forget it!!!!

Hope this helps....

I once gave my grandmother an inexpensive CD player and several CDs of music I know she likes (in her case, show tunes). You can get those kinds of CDs for cheap at many stores, I think the whole package ran less than $30. She loved it.

I also once found a perfume sampler at Macy's (then Foley's). It was a box with 4-6 small perfume bottles containing different brands of perfume. She like it very much, it also came in a nice box that she kept and reused.

If those don't work, my sister always does candy.

Think of what your grandma really likes doing first of all. Is there a hobby she likes. Get her some supplies. If she likes to dine out get her a gift card from her favorite restaurant. Remember, grandmas and parents also love anything that you make for them that comes from your heart. Now may be a time to put those creative skills to work. Good luck!

I agree. Casually drop into a conversation things which you think she may need or like. You could say "I hope I get lots of chocolates for Christmas because I like chocolates, do you? " See what her response is. Use your iniative, somehow you will get an idea. If you really still can't get any ideas, then Flowers are always a lovely gift, especially this time of year. Good luck

Grans are the best to buy for coz whatever you get them they will love it so here we go..
chocolates, a nice scarf and glove set, something smelly for the bathroom and best of all and she will love this, get a picture of you and your sisters/brothers/partner in a lovely frame and wrap it up- she will swallow her teeth!!!!
Failing that give her an M & S voucher- it never fails!

The shops are full of beautiful knitted scarves and hats at the moment. They can look so pretty and add the finishing touches to an outfit. They aren't too expensive either.
Grans like perfume too.

A nice warm pair of fleece PJs or nightgown with no buttons in the front. I like the other poster's idea of a family picture collection.

Old people eat that stuff up. It's great to "buy" a set of ducks or chicks or half of a calf for a needy family in the name and honor of your grandmother.
