Am I the only one who has the holiday blues because of MONEY? I'm so broke and I cannot afford to buy hardly anything for my kids for Christmas (I plan on buying them a CD each). Granted they're older and they DO understand (twins 18 & 16 year old all boys) Not to mention my parents, my nephew, my sister, and my fiancee. I know that's not the real reason for the holidays, but I'm just down about being SO BROKE...argh. I TRY not to let it get to me, but everyone around me at work is going on & on about they bought this, they bought that. I go visit friends and they have gifts galore under their tree, I have ZERO...How in the world do I feel better?

I felt the same way. I have two boys and no money. You can try to sign up for toys for tots. go to www.google.com then type in toys for tots. I hope this helped. I wish you and your family the best holiday ever. Good luck.

No you are not the only ones.
But do you remember what you got when you were little or do you remember how special Christmas was?
I remember how special it was.
Christmas is sooo commercialized now.
I have bought nothing and don't have a lot of money.
That is very sweet they are soo understanding.
Maybe you guys could do some things that day - days leading to christmas. Watch movies etc.
Not to be mean and I do not know your situation, why are you so broke? Should you reevaluate your spending habits? Find a part time job? Maybe just long enough to get a paycheck for Christmas?
Presents are not what matters - dont be so down. I know people who will have a worse Christmas this year.
Their mother completed all her christmas shoopping gifts readyt o go... and she died a few days ago. The gifts do not matter.
Being together does.
Have a blessed Christmas and make the most of the TIME.

Am feeling sorry for you as i know it is very hard this time of year and not have money for presents. There are several charity organizations that could help you. Check with your local churches or even Toys For Tots foundation. But please do not let the commercialism of the holidays spoil it for you. Just keep in mind that better days are ahead if you and your family really work at it. Have been there myself. Remember the reason for the season. Also..there are other alternatives to gift giving. Last year i made homemade preserves and candy and put them in tins or gift boxes. Everyone really enjoyed the fact that i made those items. Don't believe for a second that you have to spend loads of cash to make someone happy.

I understand completely what you are going through. Being a single mother, it is so hard to balance money at Christmas time. But there are several places you can go for help. Toys for Tots is one place you can go. You can also sign up for the Angel Tree or go to your local church and sign up for their donations. Several shelters have brand new toys/gifts for all ages as well. There is also food banks that can give you food baskets for the dinner. A way to feel better during this time is to remember that the holidays are about you and your family and not the amount of gifts that they receive. I hope this helps!

You are absolutely not alone! We had to pare down our list and decided to not give gifts to everyone.
Maybe suggest that your extended family could draw names~ you might be surprised to find that they are stressed, too. If people really love you, they wouldn't want you to stress about giving to them, and would want you to be able to do more for the boys (even if that just means a nice holiday meal and a tree). Please don't forget yourself in the holiday bustle. The season is about giving, but that doesn't have to be bought. You can spend time with your family and give them some good memories to take into the New Year. Bottom line, if someone doesn't understand, they are really the Scrooge. Take care and I hope your holidays get happier!

MAKE gifts to put under your tree. Holiday crafts, and homemade gifts are the best anyway! And most items you can make from the stuff you have around the house! Also...try dollar stores...the quality of the products has gotten a million times better and you can fill the bottom of the christmas tree for under $50!

Your question was how do you feel better about the situation....as you know you are not alone. My family has also been having hard times. This year for Thanksgiving I took my family to the local shelter to help distribute dinners..It really put things in prospective...Maybe your family can do some volunteer holiday work or visit a nursing home or children's hospital? It would bring your family together and help bring in some holiday spirit?

you have to realize and come to grips with the fact that the "holidays" have become overcommercialized merchandising tools. advertisers and marketers have become so adept at pitching the "must have" that we all get sucked into the "i have to have...." mentality.
that being said, it's the thought that counts. your family probably knows your financial situation. how about a plate of cookies for your parents. i know it's not much, but it's from the heart.
