I started smoking for a very stupid reason. when i was in college some guy was smoking next to me. Stupid me thought i would try one and that would be that. Boy was i wrong. i came home for Christmas and my dad warned me that i would get addicted. I just did not listen. I have smoked on and off for the past 9 years. My doc gave me a new drug called chantix. you keep smoking while you take the first pack of of the drug (i think its 10 days) and than you stop smoking, but keep taking the pills until you are ready to stop. My advice for those who smoke or are thinking about it. DONT even have one cig.. once you do you are hooked and for those who already do smoke. STOP. i know its easier said than done, but you will feel better, you will smell better and most of all..you will live lot longer.

Cold turkey. I picked a day on the calender, April 27 2001. I smoked my last cigarette before I went to bed, threw the rest away with all of my lighters and went to bed. I did not tell anyone that I was going to, I just did it. The first three days were awful but after that it got better. I do miss it a little but I am so happy I do not do it anymore!!!

I had a partially collapsed lung and had to get a chest tube which was NOT fun they literally just slice you and shove it in your lung and you're stuck with it until your lung reinflates. It also drains blood and fluid into this plastic case that is attacted to the bottom of the tube. It's even worse than it sounds, very very sore and painful once drugs wear off. Going through that and being stuck in the hospital for a week was enough to not want to smoke again. That and the fact that next time would be surgery..

I stopped smoking when I got pregnant with my son. So have been not smoking for 2 years now. But thats how I quit. You can try that patch or gum. I heard that works.

The patch; 11 years ago.Only thing that worked permanently for me.I smoked 11/2 packs a day of Winston.Never smoked even 1 cigarette after that;except in dreams. Then I'd wake up mad, onlt to realize I hadn't given in to that awful habit again.Don't miss it at all anymore & have no desire.even if I was told I only had x amount of time,I wouldn't go back!!!

After 10 days in intensive care after having my throat cut ear-to-ear in a radical neck dissection to remove a cancerous larynx not smoking again wasn't a problem.
