There have been a few especially Dr.Manmohan Singh is doing a great job but I would have to say Indira Gandhi for her courage & guts. The only Prime Minister who could keep Pakistan in their correct place while she was around.A true martyr who died for the nation.

We should judge from the support of MPs enjoyed by the Govenment and the dicision taken then Pm. Rajiv Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru never face risk that for their any wrongding Govt. will collepse. When we look at this angle Many important dicision taken or should have been avoided . For this reason Rajiv is the worst PrimeMinister. He could have esily avoided ShahaBano Issue. For that matter Ramjanmabhume issue also.
Indira Gandhi really with minority Govt really taken bold dicision one imp was Nationalisation of Banks.
Bad Chapter was Allahabad Verdict and Emegency.
I will give full marks to Atal Bihari Vajpeyi . He did very well to bring together many forces together and run the non congress Govt.
Other better not to be mentioned.

Pundit Jawahar Lal Nehru of course. All we see today is based on the infrastructure created by that patriotic Prime Minister. We may differ on a few of his policies. But they were correct at that time. He was a statesman par excellent, respected throughout the world. A leader who sacrificed his entire life for the freedom of his motherland. Unfortunately we have no other prime minister later to compare. Mr. Lal Bahadur Sastry was the second one.

Nehru no contest. Just read his speech to the Lok Sabha at midnight on August 15th.
'Long years ago, we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time has come to redeem that pledge....at the stroke of the midnight hour, while the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, that comes but rarely in history, when the soul of a nation long supressed, finds utterance....'
Nehru understood the needs of his people and the challenges that they faced. How prophetic his words were, even today, that speech and the challenges it spelt, hold true. India has come a long way since 1947, but has yet to full all the pledges made in 1947.
Nehru gave India it's first but most crucial steps in nationhood. He unified the nation, spelt out it's direction and took risks by aligning with the Soviets (for India's immediate needs).
After him, I would rate Atal Bihari Vajpayee, but my favourite was VP Singh, because he was an honest and sincere man, just like Nehru. Dr Manmohan Singh has proved to be an adept leader as well, just like IK Gujral. Both able work in the difficult framework of coalition governments.
The worst is Chandrasekhar.

Lal Bahadur Shastri. Instead of growing flowers he preffered to grow grains. This was the person who started "Green Revolution" thats why today we are exporting grains. He had accomplished the things in 18 months which could not be done by Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru in 18 Years.

Late Shri. Rajeev Gandhi . Becoz of his vision about future and technology.
Becoz of this man telecommunication in India developed. He bought newer technology in India.
Now we are surfing internet, chatting over internet, using telephones, mobiles....for this kind of technology in India, there is a smaller hand of this person.

Lal Bahdur Shastri
Despite his humility & simplicity, he effectively led the China battered nation to victory over Pakistan & re- instilled the nation with confidence & morale.
His slogan- 'jai jawan jai kisan' drove the generation back to unity, integrity & growth of the nation.
