After reading the below, I am floored. How do YOU react to a homosexual raising a child/children?

From CNN, re: Cheney's lesbian daughter announcing her pregnancy

"Unless they move to a handful of less restrictive states, Heather will never be able to have a legal relationship with her child," said Family Pride executive director Jennifer Chrisler.

The couple "will quickly face the reality that no matter how loved their child will be. ... he or she will never have the same protections that other children born to heterosexual couples enjoy," Chrisler said. "Grandfather Cheney will no doubt face a lifetime of sleepless nights as he reflects on the irreparable harm he and his administration have done to the millions of American gay and lesbian parents and their children."

From my own perspective: this is getting WAY out of control. :-/ For calling ourselves Christian nation, we sure don't seem to want to act Christian.

I personally feel that same sex familes can raise loved and happy children. Love doenst see sexual orientation or sexuality, it see's the heart. Love is unconditional and if a person says that I can't raise a child in true love then they can't because they are judging me for who I am. I don't understand why people put so much stress on gay people raising children, we not killing them.

What about people who smoke? Second hand smoke kills, but you don't see us (gay people) going around saying thet smokers can't raise healthy and productive familes...

I will have a family one day! If they like it or NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I'm not sure what part of that story has you more offended; the fact that Lynne Cheney and her partner are trying to have a baby, or the hardships they will face from a homophobic and unaccommodating society?

But to answer your question, gay and lesbian parents are certainly no less equipped than straight parents to raise children. I mean, heck, just walk through a WalMart some time and you'll see how low the bar really is among some heterosexuals.

As part of a 'homosexual family'... I can't imagine why we couldn't be happy, healthy and loving
Unfortunately gay families are judged based on their sexuality... something which has nothing to do with their children.
As a side note... we are not actually a "Christian" nation... that's a nifty little part of the constitution that isn't normally on display, but if you do the research you will find it to be true :)
Furthermore...fortunately for the GLBT families out there... although the administration is against us having the same rights as straight families... and although we aren't allowed the same insurance etc, we still are able to look beyond that and have healthy happy well adjusted children and families. Isn't it a shame that not all people are able to say as much about overcoming apparently insurmountable odds :)

Get over it. I know gay couples who have children and they all live in a very loving home. A couple of married lesbian friends had a new baby this week (their second child), and everybody is very happy and well-adjusted. Of course if some people had their way, gays would be at the back of the bus, just like African-Americans were until they spoke up and demanded RESPECT.

I can only say that there is no statistical evidence whatever to support the idea that homosexuals cannot raise healthy, happy well adjusted children. I believe that homosexual couples should be given all the legal protections that heterosexual couples enjoy.

I have no idea what you consider to be way out of control.

The subject of homosexuality is personal issue, as it is ones personal choice, ones own journey that leads to such a fantastic and bizarre life. It's a beautiful thing, but at the same time it should remain a personal matter. If such a couple tries to raise a child, the child will be confused, it may even be trained, it may then be turned gay, not of its own personal choice, but upon the wishes of the parents.

Hemosexual couples CAN raise normal (whatever that means!) and well-adjusted children; it just might be more of a challenge and require a lot of intelligence and sensitivity and empathy, etc.

I react as all people should react, I wish them well and accept that this is their life and their business. Your judgmentalism by attempting to insist that YOUR religious beliefs hold precedent over the beliefs of others is what is WRONG with this country.

sexual orientation has nothing to do with raising healthy happy and well adjusted children. People have no right to judge or make assumptions based upon sexual orientation.

I agree with you. It is shameful that we refuse to offer protection to families like Mary Cheney's....and mine.
