I left my computer in a cab (Apple laptop). I have all my information about the computer, and would like to know if it would be possible to find it based on its IP address, S/N or something like that... Any thoughts?

nope. Not in the way you're thinking anyway. There is software that can do this but only if it's pre-installed before you loose it. It's sorta like a "LoJack" for computers.

Try pawnshops and the cab company. I read some guy who worked at an airports's article saying they throw away over a thousand laptops a month from people leaving them on palnes and in the airport and never even calling to ask for them, or not being able to describe them properly. If you have the serial number that should do the trick, if the taxi driver turned it in.

More than likely though the cab driver took it or the person who got in the cab after you did.

After checking with the cab company, report the computer as stolen. Let the police know the serial number. Then check with the local pawn shops and have them be on the lookout for it. Even if the police find it years later due to an unrelated crime, they will let you know.

Contact the cab company and see if they have it there in lost and found.
