Okay, before I get any "the baby will come when he's ready" my situation is this... I am full term, my due date can't be off (hubby was gone before and after), I'm dilated to a 2 and 80 % effaced and his head is VERY LOW (as of doc. appt. yesterday). My husband is leaving town in 3 days!!! (He's in the military) and even though he'll only be gone a month, it would devastate me to not have him by my side for the birth of our child. I have tried the following sex, nipple stimulation, walking. I've been advised against castor oil. I will have strong contractions after sex, but then they stop after an hour or so. I would appreciate ANY ideas that I haven't thought of! I am a wreck over this! I've heard of black cohosh, but don't know much about it and the pills come in so many miligram levels so I'm a little nervous about that....

I did speak with my doctor about inducing... he says they're not supposed to unless "medically necessary" until one week post due date. Yup, already tried the tears...

YES! This is a great "trick!" And when it's important like this, it always works!!!!
PRAY!
That's it! It's simple! God cares and He wants you to tell Him your concerns! Just let Him know what and why this is important to you and then let Him do His work:)
I'll pray for you all, too--but it won't do anything if you don't ask, too! God bless!

I understand you want your husband there when you deliver. However you are already doing all the things that you can possably do to speed the labor up. Anything elce may harm the baby. Dont take castor oil. Its not good for you or the baby. It sounds to me like labor will come with-in the next 3 days or so. Start counting the contrations and if there 5 mins apart lasting for longer than 30 secs, go to the hospital. I hope you have family member to help you with the baby after its born. Taking care of a baby alone is VERY hard and overwelming. Good luck and congrats!

I KNOW how you feel!
DO NOT take castor oil. Repeat...Do not take castor oil. You will have strong contractions, and if you go into labor, you will have diarrhea and a baby both on the table. You do not want that, I'm sure.
What worked for me? Eggplant Parmesan. Don't know why, but trust me...it WORKS!
I just knew i would walk this last baby of mine out, and after a mile a day along with nipple stimulation, and urrgh...castor oil, and sex, nothing worked, UNTIL...I remembered good old eggplant parmesan and decided to give it another whirl just in case that's really what worked. Don't ask me how or why, because I honestly do not know... but 30 minutes later my water broke, and I had a gorgeous baby boy in my arms with a hubby streaming tears of joy 6 hours later.
It's safe, and hey...it's certainly worth a try.
Good luck, and I'm praying for a safe, healthy delivery for you.

I agree with mystic_eye_cda.
Check out the link she posted - there is TONS of good info on that website.
DO NOT take castor oil. It will put you in the bathroom and make you very uncomfortable. It could also cause baby to have his first BM while in the womb, which can be bad.
Don't take cohosh unless you are under the supervision of a caregiver who is very experienced with this induction method.
Consider getting a massage or a chiropractic adjustment to put your body in balance. This will make labor easier when it does come.
Talk to your caregiver about the possibility of stripping your membranes. If he will consent, go home and have sex afterwards. The combination of the two could kick you into labor.
Know that, as much as you want it, nothing will work if your body and your baby aren't ready. Please don't allow yourself to get too stressed out over it, as that's not good for you.

well you can also try spicy foods and doing squats castor oil might work but alot of times it just gives you alot of pain and not real contractions.. walking and sex are supposed to help... but given your situtation why dont you ask your doctor to induce you. My doctor induced me on Oct.25 and I wasn't due until November 12 AND I wasn't dilated at all!!! (thank goodness because he was born the 26 and weighed 7 lbs 4oz. my doctor said if I went to my due date he would have been almost 10 lbs)... If your already at your due date there is no harm with being induced explain your situtation to the doctor see if he/she can give you "the gel" see if that helps it's supposed to bring on contractions. good luck hope your doctor can help you out by induceing you ...I'm sure once you explain your situtaion he will!

You need to talk to your doctor. He should understand your situation! It is different than when women want to be induced just because they are tired of being pregnant! I think he will understand. I am being induced tomarrow! I am 2cm and 40% 1 week overdue and my doc said that I should have him by tomarrow night sometime. Although my first induction ended in a 46 hour labor, but I wasnt dialated or effaced at all. Good luck to you. I can't imagine not having my hubby there at my side when I have my son. God bless you military wifes, you are alot stronger than I will ever be! Take care and good luck!

Why did you not ask at your appointment yesterday to be induced? Some doctors will, if you are full term. That is the only trick I know to get a baby to come early. The rest are just things you can try to make yourself feel like you are helping along the birth.

Use Evening Primrose Oil gelcaps (WalMart has them) as a vaginal suppository. It will soften things. Many midwives have their patients do this. It may or may not hurry the delivery, but it should help your body prepare for it by softening the cervix. For me, it also prevented me from having to be cut or tear. I think you can do it twice a day. After baby is born, you can take the rest of the caplets according to directions on the bottle to help regulate periods and decrease menstrual discomfort and PMS.
PS- DO NOT use castor oil. Some studies show it can cause baby to have his first bowel movement inside the womb, which can cause complications.

cohoshes aren't necessarily safe.
Try black licorice. Going on swings. However, and I know you don't want to hear this, but ..... you can't force labour if the baby isn't ready. And even if you know your EXACT due date it is still +/- 2 weeks because some babies need more or less time to cook.
Should you decide to try some things, like cohosh, here is some good information:

(It is like 10 pages long so I can't copy and paste)

Not to discourage you, but I was 4 cm dilated, 80%effaced and my waters were bulging for 2 weeks! The doctor kept telling me that he didn't think I would make it to the next appointment, but I kept surprising him. I tried everything too, but nothing worked! Thats too bad that your husband might not be there for the birth, good luck to you, and I hope that something will work for you.

There really isn't much else you could do. You should have talked to your doctor about this. I'm sure he/she would have induced you in a situation like this. I know my doctor told me he had done this for a couple of women. If you are full term I dont see any harm in it.
