I have, and there is nothing 'unsafe' about it.
Yes, it can get a little messy if you have a heavy flow, but so long as both you and your partner are up for it, then by all means, go ahead.
-edit-
Also, keep in mind that having sex on your period should be treated the same way as having sex at any other time. Be sure to wear a condom to protect against diseases. And I also think you should know that even if you are having your period, it is still possible to get pregnant if you don't use some form of protection, however unlikely it might seem.

There is really nothing unsafe or weird about having sex while having your period. As long as you and your partner are comfortable with having sex during that time - go for it :) It can be a bit messy so you might want to protect your sheets with a towel or so. Also don't forget that having your period doesn't protect you from getting pregnant.

I have had plenty of times, but my husband doesn't care too much. Also, I use INSTEAD soft cups while on my period. They tend to prevent it from being too messy because it catches the menstrual blood. There is nothing that should be dangerous about it.
Now, on the other hand, you have to comfortable with your partner and their level of disease. If you have a blood born disease like hepatitis, HIV, or some other disease, it will also be in your menstrual flow. You are not more susceptible to disease at this time either.
So if your partner is up to it...go ahead and have fun!

I have never had sex while i was having a heavy period. But sometimes in the shower when it is light. I don't think it is unsafe, but i know you are still able to get pregnant. And we use the shower that way there is not a mess, and also cause sometimes its fun to have sex in the shower.

Yes, it is okay. Some girls/ guys just prefer not to because of the mess that it can cause. Actually sex can help to relieve menstrual cramps, so I would say if you and your partner are okay with it go right ahead. It doesn't bother me to and there is actually nothing wrong with it.

It is easier, since blood and endometrial lining is a natural lubricant.
If both you and your partner are disease free, it is safe. If either of you have any sexually transmitted infections, it is slightly more risky than at other times for you to have unprotected sex.
It tends to be a mess, and some men freak out should they get blood on their penises. It can be painful if you are having serious cramps to have vigorous sex... OTOH, orgasm is an excellent cure for cramps. Try it in the shower or with a towel down on the bed to catch any spilled blood, or wear a diaphragm/Instead/Lunacup to block the blood.

People do that all of the time. There is absolutely nothing "unsafe" about it. You need to ensure that you and your partner will be comfortable with a bit of blood. Put a towel on the bed and have fun.

Yes it can be done. It's messier, but the better thing about this is that you feel more lubed up. It's completely safe, but keep in mind that you can still get pregnant. I find it better to have sex 2-1 day before my period ends. It's less messier that way and more satisfiying
