Hi

My mum has a bought a new PC and monitor, from seperate suppliers. However she cannot get teh Dell monitor to work vis the VGA cable or the other one - does anyone know why this would be the case and what we can do to get her back playing her games.

Her old monitor does also not work on the new PC, but how is she supposed to change settings (if thats whats required) if she can't see what she's doing?

Any suggestions appreciated.

If there are 2 VGA ports to plug the monitor into, try the other one.

The monitor or display of a computer is the primary user interface. Monitor problems are some of the most common computer problems since the voltages inside a monitor can be as high as 10 KV. Many of the problems can be fixed yourself by simply changing the settings. Detailed instructions available at http://fixit.in/monitor.html

I really don't think it's the brand of monitor, I would suspect the graphics or video card it plugs into is bad. The only cheap way to tell is to find a friend who will let you plug the Dell monitor into their computer, if it works, fine. Then take their monitor that works, and plug it into the new computer. If you don't get a picture, I would suspect the graphics card is shot. Best of luck.
