If 'truth seems to appear to the eye of the beholder" as you say, then it is subjective, and there is no objective truth within the human point of view.

If you think that there is no objective truth from the human perspective, only degrees of probability, then go with that.

1st: "flawed", not "flaud".

I can say with absolutely certainty that certain things are and always will be true. A good parent will always love and nurture their children. A good person will help out another person in need if they can. Friends enrich a person's life, even if they are a pain in the a** sometimes. Besides, what is wrong with wanting to be right? You are confusing wanting to APPEAR to always be right than with actually BEING right. I'm not wrong, and I don't need (or want) your forgiveness. Its OK though - life is for learning.

I agree, we will never know truth for certain. With our five senses our only way to experience the world... which you said could be fooled.. and our minds which are, as you said, flawed. But I don't think that our need to be right is a problem.. In fact, it's a good thing. As many of great thinkers have said, the search for truth is more important than finding the truth. I think that our pursuit for truth is what helps us progress as a species... that despite our knowledge that we may never possess truth.

if you think a mistake is a bad thing then yes you would have this view 100%
i see your point and your almost right <-- sound familuar?
a mistake means you learn something take that with you there really was no mistake don't take it with you and fool yourself in thinking it was bad!
What is Right and what is WRONG is more or less a socially accepted! What would the majority of the world say would they agree with you or disagree! even tho i slightly agree with you lets say for example that 85% of the world didn't agree! and we fall into the 15% we would be WRONG THEN.. maybe not to ourselfs but in the BIG PHOTO we are!
:)
hope that helps!

The need to be right is connected with the need to "know" - perhaps they are one in the same.

God has put within the human heart the need to know, the need to find "the truth", the need to know what is real and what is not. This certainly has led mankind to make mistakes, brought about arguments, and started wars... but it is not negate the basic need nor does it mean that the basic need is wrong. It simply means that we have applied ourselves in a wrong direction. This, in biblical terminology, is sin. We have taken good desires and acted upon them wrongly. ( As a side: our need to know, our need to find "the truth" has also led to many wonderful helpful inventions, ideas, too)

But the basic need to be right stems from our inner dissatisfaction with ourselves, our world, and our disassociation from God.

I believe all lack of peace and unrest come because of these two principles:

1. we do not like being fallen (disassociated from God)
2. we seek in man what can only be found in God

any way, there is a lot more to be said but i appreciate your attitude of forgiveness - "to err is human; to forgive, divine".

god bless!!

I think the real problem is we think we need to know. We, are, or at least I am conscious, and for the sake of argument I'll assume all the rest of us are too. We don't need to know we just need to react to our situations as they arise in an honest fashion.

Well, thanks for forgiving me! lol

I agree... someone said, "There's always 3 sides to every story: her side, his side and the right side." That's a real good reason to be slow to judge...
Our need to be right (which can also be translated: pride) is also what makes it so hard to ASK for forgiveness ("It's easier to forgive someone for being wrong than it is to forgive them for being right"- another of my favorite JKRowlings quotes- sorry if I've offended you in quoting something I read in Harry Potter!)

I think we should always assume that we are wrong even when we start to think otherwise. That way when we are right, truth shines out from us without us even trying.

I think you are right, may I add that because we need not to be rejected furthers our need to be right. but it is not the humanity of us that is being rejected as much as our memories.Have a wonderful acceptance day. lol

We all like to think we're superior to the next man.
