Because, for some reason, people stop committing crimes after they are subjected to the death penalty.

There are bad people out there and nothing is going to stop them. People make excuses, but the truth is they are bad and nothing is going to stop them from creating crimes - many very bad. No punishment has or ever will be a complete deterrent to crime. When cattle rustlers were hanged, that did not eliminate cattle rustling. Likewise, the death penalty will not totally eliminate murders. Nothing will have any deterrent capabilities unless enforced. However, if enforced, I think you will be surprised how many crimes are not committed. So there is some deterrent factor. This means some lives have been saved. I believe in the death penalty, but if the death penalty is abolished, put these people away for life. Life meaning LIFE. There are criminals - even murderers - released who do it again. That is unnecessary lose of innocent life.

Every state has the authority and power to elect their own decision to have or abolish capital punishment. Texas leads the way for the death penalty. I believe only 2 states still have , "Hanging" as the means of death, and New Hampshire is one of them.

becoause that is logical
death sentence is awarded to those who have taken life of other people.
just look at the states which do not have death penalty, what do the residents of the state do to the people who come out of prison after serving a 12 yr term or 14 yr term. there was this woman in ontario canada released from jail after completing her term in jail for killing two girls. people in atleast two provinces did not let her live close to their homes, coz she is a convict.
and wherever she goes for a job, she is refused a job coz of her background. even when she started working somewhere, she was forcibly removed by the media campaign against her.
according to the system if one has completed his/her sentence, then the person should be free to go/carry on with life. unfortunately we do not let that thing happen, coz we are afraid, that this person might do the same thing again.
so, decide for yourself, what is rational.........

Because the citizens believe that (a) the death penalty is a deterrent (it is not) (b) people who kill + have done something so horrible that they forfeit their lives (debatable). In fact, most U.S. states have the death penalty.

why do some u.s. states NOT have the death penalty? i guess it is just what the majority of those states believe in. i'm glad we have the death penalty and yay for Texas for being such users of their death penalty. i think the range of death penalty convitions should be widened.

There are some crimes so heinous, so horrible in the extreme (and mass murderers, those who prey on children and women and then torture/kill them, those who rob others and kill indiscriminately just because someone has something, those who kill others for the way that they 'look', hate crimes (all good examples)) are the ones who the Death Penalty was designed to punish.

Ultra liberalism. Abortion is the right of woman to control the destiny her own body and the death penalty is the right of everyone else to control the destiny of an indivdual body that doensn't belong to them, just because they want to.

because the Supreme Court said that individual states can decide how they want to handle criminal punishments.
So, many passed laws to allow the death penalties for "capital crimes" (first degree murder, mostly).
