I do my share of net surfing at the office (nothing risque) and regularly delete all TEMPORARY internet files and COOKIES from my C:/ drive. What i can't figure out is how to get all of the same info out of the index.dat files in the same folders? I'm not even sure what they information provides to any "Spying Eyes" on my system, but I can see that it notes the address of all of the sites that i've visited. (FYI: i'm an average user of computers and not a whiz so keep it simple!)

As far as I know you can't without 'third party' software. Even using third party software it is not deleted until you reboot the system.
Seach on yahoo or google for 'Free index.dat removal software'. There are many programs that can do this.

Here's a link to software that supposedly opens .dat files. I don't know much about it, or what it costs, but you can look into possibly using it.
