Outstanding question!!!
People just close their eyes and go on. And they wonder why the country and our children are this way. Greed seems to be the theme in this country. Until we as parents teach our children right from wrong and quit using lip service and not following through with good parenting skills, it's gonna suck! My only child is 16 and I have taught her well. She knows what each party stands for and what they believe in. We discuss the world, as a parent isn't that part of my job that she will be a productive citizen and to get an education? It starts at home, if we produce and raise idiots that is what we are going to get when it's time for that generation to run the country. Think a head. And if you think money is going to keep your kid out of trouble think again. It's up to us to groom our children. And I agree with that most of the people on welfare or any type of state assistance aren't bad people. All people are not capable of taking care of themselves, because no one taught them to. Ignorance can be generational. Some women have to get assistance because the dead beat Dad won't pay his child support. Would you rather see a child starving in your own country, well, if all of you would open your eyes and think of someone else, beside yourself the world might be a better place, or at least our country.

Where is personal responsibility in your world?
First - The people in America who live in "poverty" are the wealthiest poor people in the world. They have their own homes, TVs with cable, DVD players, video games, enough food to be fat, trendy clothing, manicures with fake nails, and lots of other luxuries. Not everyone at poverty level has this, but most do, yet are considered to be "poor."
Second - A kid who shoots me to steal my car is the problem of the justice system. I didn't make him drop out of school. I paid for him to be there through my taxes. If he chooses to directly steal from me, he needs to go to jail.
You can't fix this problem through government. Government intervention is the reason that we have so many kids dropping out. They have given their mommies a free ride their entire life. They never see anyone going to a job to earn a living, so why should they? Kids learn from what they see, not what they're told.

you sound like another worthless mex!! like you said, it is the poorest mexicans that come up hear and undercut the people that are native to the aria, in this state it is blue berries to rake, I would rake in a field less than 5 miles from the hospital that I was born in, I would use the money pay for all my school cloths, (otherwise my parents would have to take us shopping at the thrift shop) get a new back pack, a pair of new shoes for school, and if I worked hard enough I would have enough after that to go to the state fair a couple of times, then the price per bushel went down, a dollar, each year, for 3years!!!!!!! and all because the people that were raking were selling drugs to the high school kids. (if I wanted to make it up I would have said breaking in to the local stores and killing people in the process) I say we forget deer hunting and start a migrant hunting season!!!!

I think you're close to the true issue.
In my opinion, the fact that God's name has been completely eliminated from the classroom lends much to the poor state of morality among the nation's impoverished youth. I'm not saying that children should be force-fed Christianity or any other religion, but I absolutely believe that without ANY knowledge of God, morality and responsibility are foreign concepts at best.
I regard it as a travesty that public schooling is so abhorrent of God, because it is precisely at that age when children must learn of common morality, decency, responsibility, and general civility.
The key to fixing the problem you bring up lies squarely in the hands of those who educate.

no-one is saying people enjoy poverty-however,as far as income is concerned, many people are within the poverty level-yet they collect welfare from multiple social security numbers, have jobs off the books, deal drugs on the side, etc.and have more money (cash) than many hard working, honest Americans.personal responsibility and parenting are the keys to solving the problems you speak of-NOT more government intervention.

Your premise on this subject is a bit flawed. I came from a very poor family. I dropped out of school in 1968 to get a job and help support the family. I never robbed anyone, managed to finish school and college at nights, and today own my own business. All this came from very hard work and depending on myself, not others.
The fact is, in this country people can still succeed with a little backbone and elbow grease. Those who do not simply do not have it in them. Education will not lower the crime rate. It merely makes highly educated criminals. The Enron scandal is an example. All participants in the Enron scandal were MBAs. People who rob, rape, and murder are born to those tendencies.

That fact that you cannot spell the word "too" correctly or simply do not understand that that is the correct form might be part of "our" problems. It's a government voted for by the people and the people are the reason the system is the way it is. Who do you think is to blame? So, that the preceding generations and then give your own a pat on the back.

Become a social worker, and meet the thousands of people that are trying to do something about the social woes we are experiencing. Its an endless battle, but at least somebody is trying. Maybe you should too. Writing your congressman does not teach a kid how to read.

the government is not a person,it is a system,we can change how it operate by voting, writing and adjusting ourselves.the community starts with the individual,so everyone can make a difference by addressing thier individual concerns as well as assisting those who around us.don't wait on the government to change anything, start changing as an individual and infect someone else with your positivety.
