If the calculator version does not appeal, and you can't do the simple division that would also tell you the answer (divide by 3 then double your answer), you could do it the following way:

Count out 764 oranges, or marbles, or footballs. If you lose count start again. Then, working from the pile you have made, count out 1 orange/marble/football to your left, and 2 to your right. Repeat until all have been redistributed. If you lose count, start again.

Now, taking the larger pile- the one on your right- count out how many oranges/marbles/footballs there are in it. If you lose count, start again. This is your answer!

It works out 0.509
You could try rounding the number up to 1 to help you get an idea of the answer.
