Absolutely it is a violation of her free speech. More than that, it is discrimination based on religion and a violation of the separation between church and state. Also, any school that allows a student to wear a cross as a symbol of their faith, must give the same right to non-christians (including pagans like druids, wiccans, witches, etc.). If not, this is also a violation of their civil liberties.
I am saddened at how we rail and will send troops to another country that denies religious freedoms for Christians, but will not follow the same ideal of religious tolerance here at home. I have experienced this discrimination first hand. From "Christian" companies who won't hire me because I don't attend a Christian church to ordinary people on the streets who I will help carry groceries for and then who thank me before they see the pentacle I wear. Then, once they realize I'm not Jewish (Star of David has six points), they tell me I'll go to hell and that I worship the Devil (most pagans don't even believe in the Christian Devil, by the way). I've had people accept my help until they find out I'm pagan, then give (and sometimes throw!) the food back to me. Talk about hypocrasy. But this is still the country I would choose to live in. I firmly believe we can grow as a people to be an example to the world rather than its enforcer. I pray each night that we will show the same tolerance and respect to people that we expect from others. The golden rule isn't just for Christians, but for everyone. Whether or not I am a Christian, I will follow the spirit of that rule. It's a good one!

Yes, but schools have more leeway on restricting free speech than society at large. It is wrong - you should stage a protest - a sit in the cafeteria - that'll show 'em.

Yes. It's a double standard and if the school doesn't want outfits like that, then they should make a uniform policy (plan solid colored shirts and khaki pants).

Apparently the dress code doesn't adress t-shirts with messages so I think it may be a violation of sorts.

I would say so. To alleviate it, they should just ban any apparel that references religion. It just stirs up too much crap.
