My friend is 34 1/2 weeks pregnant and been having a lot of insomnia, can barley stand/walk, etc.... Today she went tot the doctors to ask the doctor is she can be inducded, the doctor said she didn't need to be. But she's in a lot of pain and hasn't had any sleep for days. I'm pregnant too 33 weeks and I'm not feeling the same way she is. She also is having a big baby. Is there any way she can induce her own labor safely?

The baby will come out when HE is ready. Pregnancy is uncomfortable. It's a fact of life.

Inducing this early is dangerous. Are you saying your friend is selfish enough to care about her own comfort vs. the safety of her child?

Ask her, seriously, if she'd rather endure 5 more weeks of being miserable, or a lifetime of guilt because her baby died when she chose to deliver it too early.

I had bad insomnia with my last pregnancy and my doctor gave me sleeping pills that helped me. I would ask about that first,But I would not try and induce myself until 37 weeks because the lungs need to devlope and they are not done yet. I did a lot of nipple stimalation and got contractions started, but if the baby is born now, it might be put in nicu and thars more heatrbreaking than anything else. Best of luck I and I hope you get some sleep.

Not really. Nothing that is safe will cause the baby to come before its time.

Also were she to give birth now her baby would spend weeks in the hospital, and you don't want that.

Can she go see a chiropractor? I know it can be expensive, but it will make her feel a lot better. She needs one trained in the Webster Technique, you can find one here: www.icpa4kids.org

Also tell her to lie on her back (just for a few minutes!) and squeeze a folded pillow between her knees. Hold for 10-15 seconds repeat a few times if not too uncomfortable on her back. Repeat several times during the day. She may hear a pop, that's fine. This will help align the pelvis and should reduce pain.

No!!!! A baby's lungs are not mature enough at 34 1/2 weeks. She is not considered full term until atleast 37 wks. She should wait until doc induces or she goes naturally. It could be harmful to the baby if she goes into labor now, which would be considered pre-term labor and a doc would most likely try to stop labor anyhow.

Being uncomfortable certainly isn't a reason to be induced (well, at least from the OBGYN's standpoint!!!). It is still really early for that. Now, my OBGYN told me that if it gets to be like a week or so before my due date, then it MAY be an option.

I say MAY because your OBGYN probably isn't just going to induce you for the hell of it even at that point. There is something called the Bishop's Score they use to determine if your cervix is "ripe" enough. If it is, then they may go ahead and do that for you, but if it isn't, don't bet on it.

I am sure the last thing you would want is to go in to be induced when your body isn't ready and you end up in the O.R. with an emergency c-section because labor isn't progressing!

tell her to hang in there for at least 3 more weeks....at 37 weeks it's fine to have a baby...but the baby's lungs need a little more maturity and her inmune systems needs an extra developing too. Tell her that you understand...I'm 33 weeks and fortunately I'm not feeling the way she is...but tell her it's for the well being of the baby...and that's the most important thing. if she tries to induce labor...they are goona make it stop at the hospital, it's still early.

It's too early for the baby to be born. She needs to put the babies health first. My daughter is only 5' tall and gained 50 lbs much of it water retention. Her legs and feet were so swollen, she could not walk, so she too was very uncomtortable, but went full term and delivered a healthy 8'5oz baby. There are many unpleasant side effects of pregnancy that women endure. When she holds that baby, she will see it was all worth it. Encourage her and tell here to hang in there!

she needs that baby to stay in there as long as possible!!the weight of the baby has nothing to do with anything!!studies have shown that babys born even at 34-35 weeks have a higher death rate than those babys who stayed in until 36 weeks.i know its hard but unless its medically necessary she needs to try to cope for at least a couple more weeks.insomnia is unfortunetly a very commom thing in preg.i have it now and im 31 weeks preg.

its to soon for her to be induced. the size of the baby may be large but the lungs are not fully developed yet. wait until she is at least 36 weeks before she even tries to induce. and never use castor oil all that does is make you throw and be stuck on the toilet. sex works and so does walking good luck and congrats to you both.

NO! Insomnia is one of the many down sides of pregnancy (so is being uncomfortable) she just needs to wait until the baby is ready to come out. My best friend was allowed to take sleeping pills when she was pregnant, so have her ask her Dr to prescribe them to her.
