don't be scared. you may be anmemic (don't think i spelled that right) I'm anmemic (which just means you have really thin blood) my periods are the same way. when you're anemic your blood has trouble cloting and therefore you just keep bleeding. i think usually it is caused by low iron in your blood (i think). i would be more scared not to go to the doctor..... i'm sure it's nothing, but i would see a doctor just in case.

I'm so sorry for you! I'm an adult, and have the same problem now, I don't know how I would deal with school! I would talk to your mom and doctor about it... sometimes going on birth control pills can help lighten and shorten your periods, vitamin B6 is a natural way to try and even things out, and I know this will sound gross, but menstrual cups work better for women with heavier flows. I used to have to go to the bathroom every 2 hours, MAX, but since I started using them, I can go at LEAST 4 or 6 on my heaviest days (6 if I wear a pad, too, just in case). This could also level off on it's own, however, if it's embarrassing and difficult for you, I'd talk to your doctor about it.
Also, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend a book called Cycle Savvy by Toni Weschler. It will explain to you all the things your body is doing and going through right now-- I wish I had had a book like that when I was your age!!

If your periods are that heavy changing pads every 1-2 hrs we usually tell patients to go to the ER. You can become anemic with heavy bleeding like that. You have just started your period and you may be one who will have heavy periods, but with them being that heavy, I would talk to your mom first. Go to the doctor and they can put you on the birth control pill. This pill helps regulate the flow so it's not so heavy. It will also make you more regular, meaning you will know about when to the day when you will start your period. Don't be scared, doctors see it all the time. If you feel more comfortable, see a female doctor or even a female Nurse Practitioner.
Don't be scared to go, it's safer to have this done, then become anemic and feel crappy!
Good luck and feel better.

Good your Not Fat, But try to Stay Around your Normal Weight All you Life, it Will Serve you Well. I Haven't Done a Gyn Interview for a Long Time, but it Sounds Premature to Put you Through a Couple Rounds of Birth Control Pills, Talk to you Mom About her Flow. I'm a Little Bit Worried About Menorrahgia (Sp?) to Anemia, you Describe a Heavy Flow, See your Doc., Maybe you Need a CBC.

Since you're 14 and just hit puberty, your body is still adjusting to hormonal changes. Your periods could change from heavy to light flow, light cramps or severe cramps. You may even go a month or two without a period. It's normal while your body adjusts. Speak with your mother about it; chances are she went through the same thing. Don't be embarassed to talk with her about it since it's just a part of growing up. Go see your doctor or have your mother call her ob/gyn and ask for advice. There are books written for teens about how their body works. Ask your mom to get you one or go to the library. Also, regarding use of tampons... take care when using them since toxic shock syndrome can develop. Tampons should never be left inserted for more than 4 hours. I agree there is a possibility you are anemic which is something your pediatrician can easily check with a minor blood test.

Honey, calm down. Stressing yourself out over this will not help. Unfortunatley, sometimes we can have very heavy periods. Are you of average weight or are you a bit plump? This may affect it as well. Try using a tampon as well as a pad for extra protection and to avoid bleeding thru your pants. If this lasts longer than 2 days, I would ask your mom about taking you to the doctor. Sometines they can put you on birth control to help regulate your periods.

It can be because you just started it but you really should check with your doctor since you are having such heavy bleeding. There is nothing to be scared of as the doctor is only there to help you. If you are not certain if you need to see the doc then just call the clinic and ask to speak to Dr. So and so's nurse. You then tell the nurse what is going on and ask her to check with the doctor if he thinks you should be seen or if he has any recommendations and then the nurse will call you back.

Have your mom take you to the doctor. You might have to go on the Birth control pill in order to have less bleeding. It really is not normal to bleed that much and you really need to get it checked out. I had to take my step-daughter into the doctor when she was 16 because she did not have a period in 2 years (It was right after my hubby and I got married) She had to go on the pill....and she is 21 now and still a virgin, so going on the pill is not going to cause you to become sexually active.

You need to go to a gynocologist and talk with them about your problems. I know it seems scary, but your exam lasts only about 2 minutes and if your doctor knows that you are a virgin, then they will take it extra easy. Since you are scared, then look for a female and schedule a consult visit first - that is a visit where you just go talk with the doctor first. Get a good feel for them and then schedule your appointment if you feel comfortable. Good Luck Honey!
