The No Child Left Behind Act is flawed and unless it is reworked it will fail. The NCLB act has a goal of 100 percent of students reading , writing and doing math on grade level. While that is admirable 100 percent is not a realistic number. Secondly they put NO responsibility on the parent for making sure the student attends school, and without regular attendence learning can not happen.

Large amounts of money are spent to further sports programs instead of academics. This is a sore spot with many teachers.

How much more motivated would students be toward their classes and study times if instead of sending athletes all over the place to sporting competitions, we sent students to intellectual competitions? There could be some for math, some for History, some for Science or Foreign Language...etc.

When I asked about this, I was told that without sporting competitions, most kids would drop out of school. I think that is untrue.
