prison, parole, community corrections, probation. each of these terms mean 1 thing 4 sure, $MONEY$. let me address the question point by point. The only right an inmate has is the right to file a lawsuit. if u take that away there would be no check for a corupt system either to start or to continue operating. everything else is a privilege that has to be earned. if you do not adhear to prison rules u can lose. Even "the very basic needs food, clothing and basic hygene" have to be earned, it is possible if enough violations accrue to find yourself chained naked to a wall in the hole(no light, no blanket, no nothing) for an indefendent period of time. prison is no vacation. One of the rules is that (unless under lockdown) you have two work a full time job, or attend and show progress in classes that are determined to be needed in order to get back into society(GED, trade). Buy the way you get paid up to $2(thats two dollars) per day for your labor. So it only takes a couple of years to buy a black and white television. I am sure, and would bet that there are only a handful of people in this country who wants to go to prison. If you want to lower crime you have to do away with victimless crimes of which i imagine are a pretty substancial number in the prison system. If you think that it is all that easy to find employment above the poverty level once released, check yourself, unless of course you are Martha Stewart(no disrespect Ms. Stewart). Once you are a felon you are f...ed. This country would be suprised if the truth was really known as to the number of unconvicted felons that are doctors, lawyers, police, and politions. People need to quit being sheep, to think for themself"s, and to question what the "officials" are telling them. that is what i think

there is no rehabilitation in prison, as a matter a fact.they are set up to fail so they end up committing more crimes so stastics will show that no matter what they can't change. reality most of the convicted felons would love nothing more than to make their lives better. the government takes all their priviledges away and they are not allowed to better themselves in any way. they are not allowed to go to school and have a hard time getting jobs. the saddest part of the all these convicted felons is they were more likely set up by a rat and the rat walks free on the streets commiting crimes day in and day out and the people that are suppose to protect us from these rats let them go on crime sprees with no repercussions and they the rats don't even have to be responsible for what they originally got busted for in the first place. so take a look at our great government and what they allow. the true menace to society never pays for his wrongs and the rats and the cops are the onesthat should be doing time along with the lawyers and judges for even allowing this practice of snitch on whoever whether they have committed the crime or not. it's criminal what this government has become.

First of all there is no such thing as rehabilitation in prison. It is about housing inmates for US tax dollars. Most states use minimum security prisoners to clean roads, work on state vehicles, work state gardens, etc. In the state of Illinois every prisoner has to work, or go to school, if they do not have a ged or high school diploma. Idle time in prison is dangerous for gaurds and other inmates. The prison system in Illinois is mostly self reliant because of the work that the inmates provide. I am not saying they are totally independant of the state, just that the prison industry is a money maker! While I am against career criminals being returned to society, some inmates deserve a second chance!

Agreed. Prison should be a punishment. Crime is so high because the threat of getting caught does not strike fear into these type of people. I don't believe in physical punishment, but prison should only provide the basic needs to live. Make them work, have responsiblilties, and be accountable. The fear of work and responsibility is one reason they commit crimes. Set prison terms for the crime committed. Do not allow a judge to determine the sentence. This opens sentencing to be based on bias and prejudice. Eliminate parole. Let time off for good behavior mean you get out when your time is up provided you behaved in prison. Forget Rehabilitation. It has proven to not work.

Sociologists got their game plan in place where they are rehabilitating the prisoners not punishing them.
They don't want to lower the prisoners self esteem and want to make them 'better'.
But when you see that the 10% of the population that do the crimes are mostly repeat offenders you realize that the sociology crap doesn't work worth a darn.
p.s. unless they have changed the law felons still can't vote

Actually, convicted felons lose their right to vote for the rest of their life in most circumstances.
I agree with you though, they should get only basic needs while in prison, get rid of the death row inmates (who stay on there for 10 years), castrate the sex offenders and make the rest work for the roof over their head.
Sounds good to me.
Merry Christmas!

a individual knows the cost they are going to pay for a fellony value, so in the event that they like to very own a gun, then they might desire to be careful approximately their life possibilities. besides the shown fact that I do understand what you assert and that's inflicting me to think of related to the priority a sprint deeper. besides the shown fact that i will say this, felons have shown a historical past of no longer being concerned approximately different individual's rights. So it relatively is a precaution with the intention to guard the rights of all of us else in society. remember you in no way have the the terrific option to violate somebody elses rights. as quickly as you initiate doing that, then all bets are off. once you initiate violating different individuals's rights, yours gets stripped away. i assume you need to apply the comparable argument against prisons. Why can we take someones freedom away and throw them in a detention center in basic terms because of fact they committed a criminal offense. the U. S. shape does not exempt criminals. in certainty you will possibly desire to draw the line someplace. you may lose your rights. i will definatly be thinking approximately this subject extra in intensity although. that's a fascinating subject be counted. -Connor
