Well, lets see...Why is the Constitution good for our country?.. I would have to say that without it there would be no country. Our first government, which was put together under a document called the Articles of Confederation was a joke and more of an alliance between the states then an actual federal government being the highest power in the land. It was weak, the country was weak and we needed something to bring us together. Thus the Constitution was written. It gave the Federal government power to assert itself over the states. Now was this good for our country? I say yes. Without the Constitution, we would have very few of the highway systems that are in this country. Thus it would take products longer to traverse the country and things such as fruit would go bad before they got to their final destination. It sets up the way everything in the government is run from the branches to how they are voted on or appointed to how must power each branch has. It sets up the checks and balances that keep any one branch from gaining too much power and taking over. The Constitution is so many things and probably one of the important documents ever written. It does many more good things for our country than I have described here. You ought to read it for yourself and learn it. Then you might be able to come to these conclusions on you own. Thanks and have a nice day.

OK. We have an Islamic representative about to enter Congress for the first time. He's going to attempt to use the Quran and say "so help me Allah."
Not sure what is going to happen, but the CONSTITUTION is clear on this. He does not have to use the BIBLE nor does he have to say SO HELP ME GOD. Both of these are forbidden by the CONSTITUTION in taking national public office.
Constitutionally, he should simply refuse the Bible and just say we will do his job.
I don't think he's going to do that, though.
Not sure how it's going to be handled.
But this is covered in the Constitution for people like Jefferson wouldn't use the standard Bible (he wrote his own).
Now, if JEFFERSON had been allowed to use his OWN Bible, then this incoming Muslim would have a PRECEDENT to draw on in using the Quran.
See, that's how CONSTITUTIONAL LAW works.
The Constitution is about ORDER, RIGHTS and LAW.
When the Constitution doesn't cover something, "states rights" prevail. That's in the CONSTITUTION. Hence the rights granted to the District of Columbia might prevail, but since it isn't a state it may not have CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to formulate STATES RIGHTS.
When in conflict we yeld to the Supreme Court which judges all Constiutional issues or we make an AMENDMENT with 3/4 the states voting to make the changes.
The Constitution let each house, Representatives and Senators, make their own rules of order and conduct for the doing of business of government. Hence they can keep this incoming Muslim from taking a seat unless he obyes the CONSTITUTIONAL RULES, which limit him to refusing a Bible and refusing to say SO HELP ME GOD. That's ALL the Constitution says and THOSE RULES supercede any rules of the House or Senate.
The CONSTITUTION also expressly gives each body, Represantives (lower house) Senate (Upper house), PResident and Supreme Court a specific set of rights and powers and duties and it is the OBLIGATION of each of these entities to KEEP THESE POWERS intact at all times.
The process of doing this, is called Politics.
You use every tool at your disposal to keep what is yours. If you have enough votes in the Senate you can read from the books in the Library of Congress for 8 years straight under their rules and not a single law would get passed in that period of tiem.

This question is baffling. It is similar to asking why food, water and air are good for you.
The U.S. Constitution is the first and perhaps only document in the history of the world to expressly establish freedom as the norm and limit the powers of the government. Since your survival is not automatic, you need to be able to make decisions for yourself in order to survive. You cannot do this if someone decides for you and uses force for your compliance.
