I was wondering if smoking reduces fertility in men and women a significant amount. I generally smoke about a pack every 7-10 days and he smokes a pack every two days. I have been trying to get pregnant the natural way for about 13.5 months and although I have normal periods every 32 days, I have not gotten pregnant once. I have gained about 65lbs within the last year but I can normally feel ovulation every month and I experience every pms symptom there is so there is no way of knowing if it is a pregnancy symptom other than taking pregnancy tests and I am so tired of being disappointed. I know I need to stop smoking and lose weight but I am wondering if there are more serious factors involved and I am afraid of what the doctor might tell me. Should I go straight to my ob/gyne to have myself as well as my husband tested?

Yes, it most definitely does. So much so that my doctor would not go forward with my IVF until I was smoke free for three months. And even though my hubby didn't quit, the smoke effects the sperm as well. It can effect count, and the quality of the sperm. A lot more chromosomily abnormal sperm are found in men who are smokers.

It's best to quit if you want to try to get pregnant. You can do it! If I did, you can, too.

I am going to start out by saying something that you probably already know... If you are trying to get pregnant STOP SMOKING. You are going to need to stop while you are pregnant anyway and it is ALOT easier to stop before you are pregnant than while you are pregnant!!! It's hard enough to deal with pregnancy hormones than with trying to beat a habit along with it. I stopped smoking 2 1/2 years before I got pregnant and I am thankful I did because quitting smoking was the hardest thing I have ever done (excluding giving birth..ouch)

I have read that smoking ages your ovaries. I would also get a check up. You said you gained 65lbs in a year!! That is not good. You may have a thyroid condition which will also make conceiving a little more difficult.

No, smoking does not reduce fertility. It increases the chance of you having a premature baby or even more serious a baby with alot of health issues. So if you know your trying to get pregnant you might not want to be around that because as you may know second hand smoke is worst than you actually doing it.

Absolutely! It specifically can lower a man's sperm count. Take care of yourself first! Go to a doctor and try to maybe lose some of the weight you have gained, you will feel a lot better. Also, please quit smoking. Pregnancy aside, it is so bad for you. Make yourself happy and everything else will fall into place. Good luck to you and God Bless!

Yes, it actually does affect the mans sperm, so does pollution, unhealthy eating etc. This does not mean a man isn't able to get you pregnant because he smokes, his sperm just isn't as healthy and has a possibility of effecting his chances.

Yes. That's been scientifically proven. If you want to become pregnant, stop smoking now!

smoking definitely affects fertility... you should quit if your trying to conceive and you should absolutely stop smoking when you've finally conceived an angel...

you should go to your doctor to know your husbands' sperm count... and to give him something to help you both conceive...
