dubbed. I can't get into the anime that much when I have to miss all the action and stuff becouse of having to constantly read.

I've answered exactly the same question 2 months ago. For me, definitely subbed, I never watch anything dubbed (except for chinese dubs, which were not that bad, since I was in China when I was little before I moved to Europe). But ever since in Europe, I always watch anime subbed. The reasons are: 1. It is the original version. You hear the original voice actors/actresses and most of them fit really well to the characters that they were doing the voice of. 2. Most dubbed ones are terrible, I mean really terrible. Most of them do not have the correct voice actor/actress for a particular character and makes the anime look bad (or as some people say ''they killed the anime''). I'm glad that I watched the animes subbed, because Japanese voice actors/actresses can ''merge'' with the anime characters and make us engage with the anime much easily compare to dubbed ones, which are usually unfit to the characters and make an anime that has a rating of 10/10 to suddenly drop to 1/10 due to bad dub! 3. Some countries might dub some animes in a way that ''degrades'' the age rating so that it's suitable to a younger audience than what it was originally targeted. E.g. Yu-Gi-Oh!, Naruto, Digimon etc. This is the most annoying and frustrating thing that any anime fans would have. It's like watching a completely different show, and you won't get the real storyline. E.g: An original version story could have a character's parents being murdered by someone, but in the dubbed version could have something like...they went on a holiday trip far far away and won't be back for a very very long time. Not only that, the background music could be changed completely as well, and making an anime show not as epic as the original version. 4. Some dubs, even if there are good ones, but any puns and playing with words can sometimes be lost once being translated to a different language. In some subs I watched, there are some info on the top of the screen to show that some puns are used, so then I know that this will make sense only in Japanese. But in dubbed versions, sometimes they don't tell you this, and they usually change the dialogue everytime this happens, or simply...cut it.

I prefer subbed anime and won't watch dubbed unless I have to. Some anime have good dubbing of the english language but that generally isn't the rule. The meaning of what is being said is lost more easily in dubbing and many times the voices don't match the character.
I also agree with a previous person's answer....anime IS japanese and to get the proper impact, it should be watched in japanese. I just wish I knew the language so I could watch it without subtitles!

I prefer subbed. It's because it's an anime and anime is in Japanese and if you watch japanese animation with an english language you will feel a little lost there. And if you dub it in english the whole anime essence will be gone.

I prefer subs cause in the dubs a lot fo the dialogue is altered to better suit younger ears, and also they cut scenes.
Sure, it's not a problem for you, but for someone who's gone from dubs to subs, there's no turning back!

Definitely subbed. I have only found one anime I can stand watching dubbed and that's Golden Boy. Some of my favorite anime are not even dubbed.

Yeah, I prefer dubbed too. It's kind of hard watching the show and reading the subtitles at the same time.
Not that I don't like to watch subbed at all. Sometimes dubbing loses some of the nuances.

yuo need to learne japanese or just read subtitles to me..reason being is that anime is japanese..therefore there is alot to learn about the culture etc..and the voice actors are so much better... if you ask me it is pure cheese hearing anime done in english voices..it is very poorly done..only dragonball has been good with it but still nothing beats the sound of the japanese language!

i prefer subbed - dubbing always makes serious bits seem a little more funny, and for some reason the voiceover artists always seem to try and keep some kind of japanese intonance / expression in which just sounds wrong.
i hate **** subtitles though, they have to be clear and translated properly - I have a weird version of the french film "la haine" and in it all references to asterix are translated as snoopy. strange?!
