Yes it is way too commercial but, in general we still know what it's about. The real spirit of it all is lacking though.
We get and give gifts to family and friends, sing the songs and go to church, and in general have a great time-but not everyone does.
What about the shut-ins or older persons living alone, who have no family and possibly no friends left-what about them?
Why not find one of these older souls and make a dinner for them and take it over and sit for a few hours to listen as they weave stories of their past? Bring the True spirit of Christmas to them-become a miracle.

I think that some people have forgotten what it is all about and I think other have just turned it into something that has a more digestable meaning for them. I do not have the most christain family but we do celebrate christmas. It has become about spending time together as a family which become more and more difficult every year as people go off to school, move, get married, have kids, military, and pass away. We are guilty of maybe being a bit materialistic but the best part and what we all remember and talk about throughout the year are the memories of the time we spent together not the presents we received. Since my daughter was born and since my cousin's son was born we have been able to have holidays with 5 generations of our family women and men. I feel so blessed to be able to say that I still have my great grand parents. I see them on other times besides Chirstmas but that like saying I'm only happy about being alive on my b-day. It is a tradition of being together and every year that we are all there, we realize that we been blessed yet another year and it makes it that much more special.
I think that some take it to far and it is all about material things and that's sad. I think of Christmas as a time to stop counting your troubles and start counting your blessings and being able to spend time with my family and maybe give them a gift does it for me.

2 b honest with u i believe we have. it seems 2 comercialised its supposed 2 b about the birth of Jesus Crist but seems 2 b more about spending loadsa money n over spending on food which doesnt all get eaten. i think every 1 should take a minute 2 look at there life n remember the real importance of christmas instead of being selfish n wanttin gifts. im not a bahumbug or a highly religous person but the way we celebrate xmas is just a lil wrong.

I think Christmas has gotten too commercial. Our society has taken "the spirit of giving" to the extreme by spending weeks agonizing over "the perfect gift," rather than spending time with family and loved ones. I do think it's possible, though, to find a healthy mix of shopping, family time, and meditating on the true reason of the season.

Yes I believe that it has. The real reason that we have Christmas is to celebrate Jesus' Birth, hence the name Christmas.

What we do in our family is Santa brings one or two gifts, mommy and daddy buy a few, then at dinner we have a birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.

Might sound weird to some people but helps us not to forget what Christmas is really about.

I agree..... I love Christmas for it's meaning and traditions, but the public has let it get so commercial.
Try reading "The Spirit of Christmas" by Henry Van Dyke if you feel llike you need to put things in perspective. It's contains several short stories/writings.

yes and yes. That's why in my house, we remember the reason for the season instead of decorations, trees and presents. My kids now know what it's really all about. I am very blessed
