Legal, yes. However, entertainment shows will want to get a release signed by anyone they film to protect them legally. A news broadcast, however, will not.

That depends on the circumstance. If you happen to appear in a public place in the background of a news shot, yes, it's legal. If your picture was taken without your knowledge and used in a program/advertisment, no it's not legal.

If you are a well-known person (Bush for example) you have fewer protections.

It depends on the picture. You would need to get permission to use a copyrighted picture (which is any picture), but something that the news guys shot would be usable.

Basically, they can use what they themselves obtain, but couldn't use someone else's material without permission.

It depends on the circumstances, but usually no. A missing person cannot be asked for permission, nor can an escaped felon on the run, etc.

Depends on the circumstances. Sometimes, you agree without knowing it. When you walk into an amusement part, there's a small sign that says your appearance may be used for promotional items. So you could appear on a commercial without knowing that you agreed.

i think it's okay if you're just filming a broad area of people , like just walking outside with a camera..but if you're just focusing on one specific person, then it could be trouble. you can blur faces just to be safe :)
