I've seen dogs be "dressed" in dog clothes, and loads of celebrities seem to dress their dogs up. I think it's sick and wrong, your pet shouldn't have to suffer just because you're screwed up!

I don't mean rugs and things that some dogs need to keep warm, I mean actually buying "dog clothes", e.g. dresses. That is pretty sick.

Some breeds are not meant to live in cold weather climates and others have been trimmed to reduce their resistance. Those dogs need a sweater at least.

And when the temperature dips to 20 below zero the ice on the snow can actually burn a dog's paws. It just makes sense to boot your dogs when they have to go out. My collie mix would lie on her side and wait for me to put her socks on. They would stay on just long enough for her to do her jobs and come back in.

I don't agree with putting clothes on dogs for fashion's sake, but I do believe in protecting dogs from extreme weather. Can you imagine how much a whippet (a smaller version of a greyhound) with no body fat would suffer if it had to go out unprotected?

The weird thing is, some dogs love being dressed up. My cousins little dog jumps up and gets all excited when my cousin holds up the dog clothing. As long as the owner isnt practically forcing it on the dog, and the dog hates the clothes, then its alright. If both the owner and the dog enjoy dressing up, then I dont see anything wrong with a happy animal.

I don't necessarily agree that dressing up a dog is sick. I think it's a bit over the top and overdone sometimes, but it does have some benefits. I've known people with Chihuahuas that put sweaters on their dogs every time they went out for a walk during the winter, not because they thought that it made their dog look cute(r) but because it kept the poor things from freezing.

Some critters just don't mind and I think a rule of thumb here is in order--as long as the pet is not being hurt or being made uncomfortable than no harm is being done--We as humans have grown to put our beloved pets as family members and some think that its fine to dress them up regardless how others feel --they see it no different than putting a fufu dress on a little girl who I am sure would rather sport a pair of jeans so she can play outside and not worry about getting dirty--
Just another thought for you to think --what I really don't agree with is this --the practice of tail docking and ear cropping now I think in the long run that is an unjust to the pets we say we love--
why not let them keep what God gave them?? Why change thier looks by docking body parts so we think they look better??

What about the dogs with no hair? Or very little hair? These dogs have to be in something.
I do not think it is wrong at all. People like to spend money on there pets. It sounds a little strange to some of us, but in the same position and we had the money and or the breed of dog who gets cold easily I could see doing this!
Our English Mastiff goes out in the snow long enough to do his job and he gets his butt back inside the house. He is short haired and will shiver if left outside. I would rather not see him sick. If for some reason he had to be out in the cold long I would put something on him so he would not get sick, I would think anyone who loves there critter (and hates vet bills) would want to do this...

Do you have a short haired dog? Where you live does it snow, if so don't you feel sorry for your short haired pet out in such cold conditions?

It depends on the dog/other animal. Dogs like greyhounds could use a sweater or some nice thick clothes. They tend to loose body heat. Also horses are dressed up too with nice blankets and such. Both animals have special coats for warmth and cool (cooling blankets, and actual coats)

As far as furry dogs, it is a complete waste of time.

EDIT

also shoes....most were made for a purpose. My cousin's dog walks around with shoes inside. This i giggle at. On the other hand....sled dogs and such really need these

I would not call it sick, but I think it is wrong if the dog does not like wearing clothes. Some times though it's for the dogs own good if it's really cold out and the dog needs to be walked and they would freeze without a coat.

This follows the increasing trend among human beings to feel that everything is like ourselves. People are like that - we don't like anything that is different. Because WE wear clothes, therefore our pets should too. Wrong. Animals do not need or like clothes and to be honest I consider it cruelty to dress up an animal. Your dog or cat doesn't understand the concept of clothing. He doesn't know that it's "cute" or "funny." All he knows is that he's having his little limbs stuffed through various holes in a piece of material which wraps around his body and restricts his movements, and that he can't get off. And he lets you do it, sits and puts up with it because he's an angel and too gentle to object to this degrading treatment.

It's not cute. It's not cool. It's not funny. Animals are animals. Let them keep their dignity.

i'm sorry to hearken to that. have you ever been good about retaining good water high quality? In my journey, 95% of fish complications comes from no longer adequate water variations. i ought to indicate doing a nitrate try a minimum of 1x a month, the decrease the ppm the further valuable. i have killed fairly some puppy fish as a newbie, so don't experience too undesirable ;) fortuitously many fish diseases like ick, fin rot, and so on should be treated if detected early. in the adventure that your fish has dropsy, which has telltale indicators of a puffed up body and scales protruding like a pinecone, then the outlook is bleak. i have under no circumstances been able to keep a fish with dropsy. in my opinion its extra humane to euthanize a incurable fish than now to not. even with each thing, that's in soreness and suffering. The recommended thanks to euthanize should be to take a ziplock bag large adequate to carry the fish, fill with aquarium water, position sick fish interior, and position the entire bag interior the freezer. The chilly will decelerate the fish's metabolism and it is going to flow to "sleep" in the previous its suffering is ended.

Not if it's a Chihuahua. Mine constantly shivers, and I have a little sweater for her. Just one, not a lot, and its just a basic sweater. I don't feel it's sick or wrong to put clothes on an animal that needs it.
That's like saying blanketing a Thoroughbred in Wyoming is wrong. Not blanketing the poor thing would be wrong, because they typically don't have a very thick coat.
Same for dogs, if it doesn't have a thick coat, it's not wrong.
