In Iraq, eventually, the Shiites will gain control, it is inevitable, they are the majority. Those Shiites will move closer to Iran. So, the final effect of this war will be to give Iran another ally. Hussein was never their friend and had in the past proved a useful puppet for US diplomacy in the region. Rumsfeld was very pally with him in the eighties. The countries in that region that have always backed terrorism were Iran and Syria. Hussein had no use for armed Shi'ite groups in Iraq, they were a threat to his regime, a minority Sunni regime. Bottom line is, we invaded the wrong country. Yes, Hussein was a tyrant but so are most of the leaders in the region. So are most of the leaders in Africa and Somalia harbors terrorists, so why not invade them. Iraq has not made the world safer, it has served as a recruiting drive for terrorists and given Iran the potential to spread its influence and they are the real bad guys.
