Our kids are two and four, some of our traditions are our own, however some are carried on from when we had been little. One thing we do is slash our possess Christmas tree. Typically that is the day after Thanksgiving, then the tree goes within the storage except every week or two before Christmas. We actually have a loved ones baking day or two the place we all celebration and crank out about 10 types of cookies and candy. As soon as our daughter was born we wanted her to get up in her own condominium on Christmas morning, so that is some thing we are trying tough to do. Gifts from Santa are unwrapped and will also be performed with right away, however the other items have got to wait except after breakfast. Additionally, each 12 months we supply my niece and nephew an ornament exceptionally for them in order that after they develop up and have a tree of their own, they'll have some starter embellishes. We probably get them at craft festivals so they are exact, and my siblings do the identical for my children. That's more often than not my favorite way of life.

Along a different line than cookies, etc... We usually open our presents on Christmas Eve before going to candlelight service. We usually go out to eat to a fancy/nice restaurant early, then when we get done with dinner it is dark. We drive around and look at Christmas lights. Year after year the same houses would be lit, but then there would be new ones as well. If your area has a park that gets covered in lights, drive through it. Then, when you are "lighted" out, go home and open your presents.
My family did this every year....and do you know, I don't know what I got for Christmas when I was 10, but I sure can tell you about the lights that I saw! How the one neighborhood tried to outdo each other each year and the one that put out luminaria for blocks and blocks. I still love it!!!

~Try getting some new pajamas for everyone to enjoy during the holiday season
~Make the weekends or evenings fun by getting holiday movies and snacks, have comfort foods that you can enjoy every year
~Plan to do something nice for someone as a family (angel tree, local fire department, elderly neighbor, etc)
~start a neighborhood Grinch- sort of a Secret Santa for the neighbors *see the link below
Pick some new decoration each year (My Hubby and I add at least one ornament every year, and it is a fun way to remember the years events)
Don't forget baking- cookies were a tradition when I was a kid. We would bake huge batches of butter cookies and decorate them
Whatever you do, I hope you have a safe and happy holiday season!

Decorate the tree together (this includes traditional ornaments, lights, etc. and my favorite - stringing popcorn together)
Take a family photo , have everyone sign it, and send them out with christmas cards
Sing christmas carols together, maybe even consider visiting a nursing home
Give to a local organization, such as Angel Tree or Big Brother Big Sister as a family
Just a few suggestions...

My family and I every year would go to church, and sometimes for an extra special trip, we would go into Boston's Trinity Church. Which is a huge and beautiful church where they would have a really nice choir singing. Baking cookies is another thing. Also every year my Mom would get my sister and I a new ornament to hang on the tree. My Dad would be in charge of stuffing the stockings, every year he'd give us a bag of Goldfish crackers and a bag of M&M's, and Mom would get us socks and pencils. We would also do the open one gift on Christmas Eve.

My family likes to get together on Christmas Eve to bake cookies (the kids love being able to decorate them), everyone puts one special ornament on the tree, sing a few carols, and pull out the old boardgames for a long evening of play.

a tradition i have always wanted to start once i start a family is to read the story of mary and joseph traveling to bethlehem to have jesus, before opening presents.
other traditions that would be fun is for everybody to decorate one ornament and write the year on it. that way you can reminisc about past holidays. you can get a box of 12 large opaque ornaments for 2-4 at a craft store and they can be made into beautiful ornaments
a secret santa tradition would be fun and sometimes funny.
a picture as a christmas card. my husband, me and the dogs take a picture every year. it is super fun.
