We were there a couple months ago for two days just because we had never been there and wanted to check it out. Mostly we just walked around the downtown War memorial area, and ate and shopped. We are not really "racing fans" but we did visit the speedway, and I must say we had a good time. They take you out for a lap in a shuttle bus so you can say you've done a lap at indianapolis, and they have a museum there that is pretty impressive. That's about all we did.

Indy has a lot of great night clubs if your'e into that scene. There's one downtown called "Dis is it" and it's the oldest bar in Indy. Famous people will occasionally drop by. Don't limit yourself to downtown. There are many sections to Indy, each with it's own feel. There are many very good restuarants, movies, museums. There are lots of concerts, colts games, pacer games, etc. It's been awhile since I've lived there, but it's a nice city. Ask around when you get there too. You HAVE to go to the Indy 500 race track during the month of May! If don't want to, or can't afford tickets to the race, you can at least watch the practices and time trials. That's real thrill. Plus there is a great museum there that you should check out. The local Hoosiers will be happy to help you!

I'm from there originally, although I don't live there now. Go to the Zoo--it's really nice. Go to Broad Ripple at night and walk around seeing some of the college-type bars/restaurants/clubs. I believe there's also a native american museum downtown (near IDEM) as well as an IMAX theater. If you have family, go see Conner Prairie, go to the downtown area and drive around the circle to see the lame 'World's largest Christmas tree':it's really just a bunch of lights strung up on a monument. Of course there are some bars downtown too, like Hard Rock Cafe' and stuff like that you'll see when you are driving down there. If you're down where the zoo is, it's also downtown so you can do the zoo in the day and the bars at night. Broad Ripple isn't far from downtown either, but it's in the suburbs sort of---David Letterman grew up in that area (went to Broad Ripple High School). Also, if you have kids, there's the Children's museum that's also downtown. They probably also have some sort of festival of lights where the Indiana State Fairgrounds are located, if memory serves me correct---and you drive through it, but have to pay per car. You can also drive through the Geist Reservoir neighborhoods (located northeast of the downtown) and see all the Christmas lights all the rich people put up. If you want romance with that special someone, 2 authentic Italian restaurants are Iaria's and Milano's. Good luck!

There's a cute little italian place downtown that you should definately check out. It's a little pricey, but definately well worth the memories. I think it is called Bertolini's Authentic Trattoria. Also, there is a IMAX theater in the Indiana State Museum
