No xrays were taken when I fell, but I know now that I cracked or chipped a bone in my leg. The sore over the bone stayed open and supposedly infection got into the bone.
My doc did NOT do a blood test to confirm infection.... My symptoms read as an infection but I am afraid to take the anti biotics with out knowing if she (Doc) chose the RIGHT kind for MY type of infection. Can anyone tell me what type of anti biotic they were put on? AND for how long? If mine do not help with in 7 days I am supposed to get a bone scan... radio active dye? no thank you....

trust in doctors is comprimised by neglect from other docs blowing me off until I have needed surgeries to repair their misdiagnoses or lack of diagnosis..
I am ALSO allergic to many anti- biotics ,so I take the when reeeally needed.

Your story and the physician's diagnosis and treatment do not match. I do not know if you should have had an x-ray after your injury but it is not possible to say that you have a bone infection with a bone scan or another imaging study. You are correct that the choice of an antibiotic is extremely important as only one family has adequate penetration into bone. If you send me the name of the antibiotic I will let you know if it belongs to that family but you may wish to see another physician. Failure to recognize a fracture is not good but failure to properly diagnose and treat osteomyelitis (infection of the bone) may lead to hospitalization.

Bone infections are very serious, I would take the stuff the doctor gave you and keep an eye open for any bad reactions and let the doctor know asap if you have any. I hope this gets better soon, that has got to be painfull.

I've got to be honest with you, bone infections are nothing to mess around with..They kill more people than you would think. I would sugest starting the antibiotics, and calling your doctor, maybe discussing this with him. The type your put on, and the length of time would depend on the infection, Usualy they would give you a certain amount of time, for the meds to work before they bring you back in for further tests.

Just take the anti-biotics....also...take some garlic tablets, they'll help your body's immune system...take vitamin supplements. Help your body heal on it's own too...but take what your doctor gives you. ;)
