I used to have a front-load washer that specified HE detergents only. Tide and Wisk were the brands of this that I ever found, and Target the only store that carried them, but that was 4 years ago. If you don't use HE detergent, you'll end up with lots and lots of suds, and probably have to run a rinse cycle 1-2 times more just to get them clean.

HE is high Efficiency. You can use regular detergent, but because an HE washer uses less water you will get better results with HE detergent

Yes you can use regular detergent-just be sure to use only half of what you would use in a regular washer.

That would be high efficiency, not high energy. You can, but it may be rough on your clothing, cause colors to bleed, that sort of thing.
