The Epiphones are decent guitars nowadays. When they first started out, they were cheapies made of plywood and junky electronics. They brought the level of quality up when they realized that people could buy used guitars instead of new at a comparable price that were better than what they were cranking out. Remember, the company doesn't make a nickel on used gear - they want to sell sell sell, so it was in their best interest to raise the quality.

They are probably decent value for the money. However, if you are willing to buy used, the Epiphone Elitist series LP is a MUCH better guitar and can be had for $450-600.

The Elitists were a super-premium line of Epiphones made in Japan that rivaled or exceeded USA Gibsons in quality, according to many players.
