Because we live in a culture of panic. Panic buying, etc. They know we want to spend our hard earned cash on faceless gifts and too much food, so the quicker they instigate it the quicker we'll rush to the shops. Gladly, we have cancelled xmas in our house and we're going on holiday to avoid. Much cheaper than buying gifts for people just so you dont look stingy. Sod this commercial con!

Because it does seem to earlier. Before Halloween had even finished there was Christmas stuff on the shelves. There's more and more adverts for toys on the t.v,let alone ones for Christmas foods and drink.
Everywhere you look,90% of people have got there decorations and lights up already.
If it wasn't for my children,i doubt if i would celebrate Christmas,as i am so fed up with it already, and we're still a couple of weeks away from the `big day`.
And guess what? as soon as Christmas is over, they'll have Easter eggs in the shops.(just to put even more of a downer on everything)

I personally think that retailers get greedier and greedier every year, and because consumers literally buy into it, it comes earlier and earlier every year. Christmas has become WAY too commercialized, as far as I am concerned. Celebrating the birth of Christ is what it's supposed to be about, but so many have lost sight of that. sad....

X-mas. Is that the day the X-men celebrate something?
But I like Christmas when the season arrives. I don't mind it being a bit early, just not the day after halloween!

It doesn't because I refuse to start thinking about it until December. Of course, if I see something that would be a perfect present for someone, I get it when I see it but I don't actively plan anything until December

First of all, it is Christmas not x-mas. The only reason Christmas takes over your life is because you want it to.

it is really the economy that does that.. It is growing.. u see when goods and items we want are made overseas they have to be made months in advance. then they are shipped early and stores sell them early
