Zion National Park in Southern Utah. It is one of the best hiking and sight seeing areas i have ever been too.

The Virgin river has carved an imense and impressive canyon in the middle of the Utah desert. Wild Turkeys, deer, squirrels, skunks, even frogs run around unchecked inside the park (season dependant). There are so many hikes that it is hard to choose a favorite.

Angel's Landing soars 2 miles above the River Bed. This hike is not for the faint of heart. It is strenuous and at the end of the hike, you have to walk across sheer sandstone cliffs with nothing more than a chain railing to protect you. Once you reach the highest point, you will be amazed and awed. The valley streaches out below you like a sleeping dragon, wild and untamed.

The Emerald Pools are 3 pools that drain into one another. At the top pool, there is an amazing water fall which cascades hundreds of feet into a small, pristine pool.

The pool appears green (Emerald) because of the moss growing in the water. People dip their toes in the water and wash off the dust of the trail on hot days. At the lowest pool, it is often easy to see a water fall thanks to the water that trickles off of, and out of, the rock.

The Emerald Pools are an easy hike and the lowest pool is wheelchair and stroller accessible (I pushed my granddad up to it before he died.)

The Narrows are at the very back of the canyon. This is the point where the Virgin River has cut a much narrower canyon into the sandstone. You can walk up to the point at which the river takes up the entire valley floor.

If you are adventuropus, and have the right shoes, you can get into the river and continue your journey up the canyon by wading in the water. There are even touring companies who will take you rafting for a fee....

Finally, there is a natural hot springs, located in the town of Hurricane...perfect to relax in after a day of hiking.

Outside the park, there are miles and miles of red rock formations and beautiful desert scenery. You can also drive to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, which is much less touristy than the other side, in 3 to 4 hours.

Just got back from Hawaii, and stayed at the Waikiki Beach Walk! Here are some things that we did and enjoyed... (1) Visiting the Pearl Harbor memorials (Arizona, Missouri, Bowfin - I really enjoyed the Missouri) - not sure how much a kid would enjoy this (2) Catamaran sail (we went through Makani Catamaran) - it was a great relaxing afternoon! (3) Polynesian Cultural Center - this might be good with a small child - it's on the other side of the island though, so you would need a car or the bus probably goes there too (4) Dole Plantation - Definitely geared towards kids - they have a giant maze and a train ride. Also a bit away from Waikiki and would require some sort of transportation (5) Sea Life Park - we didn't do this, but it's supposed to be cool (sort of like Sea World I think - it was where Adam Sandler worked in 50 First Dates if you've seen that movie) (6) Hanauma Bay - snorkeling area, but a nice beach to hang out on too (7) Drive up to the north shore - Haleiwa is a nice town to walk around, check out Sunset Beach, and another beach (not sure the name of it) where the turtles come up to rest right on the beach - they are huge and it's fun to go see them! (8) If you have a pack to carry the kid in or he's able to walk far... hike Manoa Falls - it's really pretty and a nice hike (I think it's about 2 miles roundtrip). We saw a surprising number of kids on this - most with their parents carrying a pack on their backs to put them in when they get tired :) (9) And definitely check out a luau - we did Germaine's Luau and it was a lot of fun! Hope you enjoy your vacation!

I live in California. The 3 most beautiful places in California (my opinion) are:

Lake Tahoe. This crystal clear large lake is high in the Sierra Nevadas. Even in the summer there's snow up high on the mountain peaks. This is a spectacular setting. There's lots to do...watersports, hiking, casinos, dining. If you go, be sure to stop at Emerald Bay (East shore) and take pictures.

Yosemite National Park: The huge granite mountains and waterfalls make this a truly awesome place in any season. Spring is best for the falls, but autmn has colorful autumn foilage to enjoy.

Carmel/Monterey Area: Take the 17 mile drive for beautiful coastal scenery. There's also great wineries in the area. Check out this site for a guide to wineries here and throughout California as well: http://www.cheers2wine.com.

Other cities worth visiting are San Diego and San Francisco. For things to do in San Diego go to: http://www.sandiego-romantics.com. San Diego has great weather, theater, dining, sports, hiking, kayaking, great sunsets, and more. It's a large city but spread out into many communities making it seem not so large.

You mentioned Alaska....we went on an Alaskan cruise this last summer. It does have majestic scenery. Even in the summer it is cool. The area around Juneau was probably are favorite area. There were lots of Eagles and bears. We took a great helicopter ride out to walk on a glacier which was our favorite excursion. Juneau is surrounded by water. You can't drive there without going on a ferry which can be very expensive for a motor home especially during the summer.

Have a wonderful time wherever you go.

Annapolis, MD. The views on the waters of the Chesapeak and Severn river are amazing, especially walking over the Naval Academy Bridge. It is a colonial style town and Washington D.C. and Baltimore are nearby. The Naval Academy is a beautiful place to walk around and learn some history. If you go during parade season, you can watch the Midshipmen march.
