It was a success. We got rid of the dictator and allowed Democracy to develop. There are still some problems, but that does not take away from the success.

Just like our own revolutionary war. It was a success, even though it took 8 years and several failed attempts at a government before we came up with our current system. Not to mention an incredibly bloody civil war 80 years later.

So are we supposed to say the revolutionary war was a failure because there have been problems after it? Should we go back to being an English colony, ruled by a king because everything has not been 100% perfect since the revolution? We had several failed governments and a civil war! Let's give up now, this Democracy thing isn't worth it.

People have no sense of history and so no sense of reality. If you think removing Saddam was a failure, then you are woefully ignorant. Wise up, lean history, lean about real life, and do it quick before your stupidity destroys our country.

I am not sure if many Americans realize the enormity of destruction their country has wreaked upon Iraq. They have levelled a country's infrastructure and left thousands dead and maimed. How can so many Americans honestly believe the Iraqi's are now better off?

It is going to take generations for the watching world to forget this. America's integrity has been severely damaged.

Many Americans say the removal of Saddam made the Iraq debacle a 'succuss'. I say it is only in your own mind, because that is not what the rest of the world thinks.

Most do not see the Iraq war as a success, but let me explain why. Most Americans want us to be successful in the Iraq war. They want the people there to be free and to experience all that is good in a society without genocide and dictatorship. What they don't like is that we have not stopped Iran and Syria from sending in insurgents to stop this from happening. Consider the fact that Iran/syria is sending in Hezbollah (they are wearing the garb) to kill our soldiers and Iraqis.
This foolish Iraqi study group report suggests we need to negotiate with these countries to "help us" succeed in Iraq. They don't want success, they want to take over Iraq. Leadership is the key. A true leader (unfortunately that has been somewhat lacking) would bluntly spell out to Iran/syria that further meddling will mean military action against their countries. Anything less will not convince them.

In summary, most Americans (save the far Left) want victory in Iraq, they just want us to make it happen, not just sit and be human targets.

I don't think so.the current adminastration went to war without proper thinking. There was no reason to engage militarily without going through all the diplomatic steps to handle iraq.first of all what did iraq have to do with 911.secondly,if the reason was because of suspicion of them having weapons of mass desrtuction, why did we not take the same approach with north korea, they kicked the inspectors out of their country and said to our face that they were making and testing a nuclear bomb, not to mention iran who did basically the same thing with the inspection team.We underestimated the insurgents, sunnis, kurds, and the rest of those people in the middle east,we can no longer think that our military might is enough to have and maintain super power status.we have to treat other countries with dignity and respect, dmeocracy is cool if it is applied properly and if the people yearns for it,you have to want to be free first of all in order for freedom to take place,it is not something that can be rammed down someones throat.take us for instance, there were many slaves in the u.s. who did not know what to do with the so called freedom that was suddenly thrusted upon them, they had to learn to adapt to thier new way of life,so, unless the people start freeing themselves in the mind,it will be a long after the bombs stop falling until they can truely realize thier freedom.as for as the forien policy success,it depends on a lot more than our involvment in iraq, the world watches how we treat all countries not just iraq.

it wasn't a total failure...we got rid of a horrible dictator. But it really has become a mess and we need to get out asap. Bush has finally agreed to that, but he is smart and doesn't think we should pull out all at once and just leave things messed up. I think this civil war they are talking about is going to happen no matter what we do. But that is ok because, looking at history, civil wars end up doing a lot of good in the long run.

A foreign policy success? What war has been a foreign POLICY success...you need to reword your question.

I don't see how anyone looking at it objectively can think so. We're at the point now where were trying to make the best out of a bad situation.
